DETROIT -- Although Mary Jo Sanders didn’t earn a million bucks for her win Saturday night, her Detroit fans sure thought she fought like it.  Sanders earned the WBC Interim Welterweight belt with a unanimous decision win over tough Elisa Olson to improve to 17-0 in her career. As expected, Sanders was the more efficient tactician, although she did absorb a few of Olson’s looping hooks which earned the California-based challenger the admiration of many in the Cobo Arena crowd of 3,000.  Full Story

Salazar defeats Valley by TKO

(JULY 24) On July 21, 2005, at the Arco Arena, in Sacramento, California, Heavyweight Martha Salaza stopped Marsha Valley 1:49 seconds of the fourth round in a scheduled six rounder. This was the third match for the two with Valley winning the first bout, and Salazar winning the second.

(JULY 23)  It was announced at a press conference yesterday, that Regina Halmich will be fighting Maria Jesus Rosa in her next fight on September 10th.  The fight will take place in her home turf of Karlsruhe. This will be Halmich's 50th fight.  Halmich also talked about an expected rematch with Elena Reid in December. Halmich said at the press conference, that the Reid fight will not be her last appearance in the ring, although she expect to hang up the gloves in the not too distant future.

(JULY 17) On August 7, 2005, in Rimini, Stefania Bianchini of Italy will be fighting Cathy Brown of the UK for the vacant WBC World Flyweight title.  This will be a rematch for the two, when they fought previously for the EBU European Flyweight championship. (JULY 16) On Friday, July 15th,  Top Rank hosted a dinner with Lucia Rijker promoting their "Million Dollar Lady" Pay-Per-View Boxing event.  Rijker will be fighting her nemesis Christy Martin in a 10-round WBC World title at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas,  July 30, 2005.  Lucia Rijker was very gracious with the press,  answering questions about the up and coming fight with Martin.  Full Story with photos

(JULY 15) Tonight at the Gund Arena, in Cleveland, Ohio, Vonda Ward, now (22-1) won the World Cruiserweight IBA belt when she defeated Cassandra Geigger. with a unanimous decision.  According to WBAN's insider, Geigger was knocked down twice.  Final judges scores were 100-88.

Christy Martin is on the verge of a great undertaking and, it appears, she has the first requisite pretty well covered. (JULY 10) Myriam Lamare, retained her title in the south of France last night when she stopped 19-year-old Iva Weston of Trinidad in the third round. Weston had begun well enough, using her reach and a snapping left jab to keep Lamare at bay, but the fight began to slip away from her the moment she threw the right: Lamare ducked under it and hit her with a left to the solar plexus that bent her double and set the pattern for the fight. (JULY 10) Last night at the Life Sportpark Herrenkrug, in Magdeburg, Germany and promoted by Sports Event Steinforth, Natascha Ragosina, originally from Khazakstan, and fights out of Germany, now 7-0-0 (4KO), remained undefeated when she won by a 10-round unanimous decision over Valerie Mahfood, now 19-9-1 (9KO). The two were fighting for the WIBF super-middleweight (168 lb) continental title. Final judges scores were 99-91, 100-90, and 100-90. The fight was televised by DSF.   Full Story

WBAN was told that the fight was very good. In the first round, Reid knocked Dobbs to the canvas.  Final judges scores were 60-51, 60-51, and 60-53.
