Sanders to fight Olson for WBC title!
July 5, 2005

(JULY 5) On Saturday, July 30, at Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan, Mary Jo Sanders (16-0, 5 KOs) will meet Eliza Olson (8-4-3, 2 KOs) of Fresno, California for the WBC Junior Welterweight World Title over 10 rounds.

Sanders, who currently holds the IBA Continental Welterweight and IBA Continental Junior Welterweight titles, is looking forward to fighting her first world title bout.

Olson, four-time junior welterweight world title challenger, is looking for this fifth challenge to be a charm and take home a world title as well. Both fighters come from championship bloodlines. (Inset photo of Olson in red attire)

Mary Jo Sanders is the daughter of the Detroit Lion's seven-time pro bowl champion, Charlie Sanders. Eliza Olson is the granddaughter of former middleweight world champion, Carl "Bobo" Olson. With that in mind, coupled with this being the first WBC Junior Welterweight World title fight for women, July 30th should prove to be historical.
