AUG 31) On June 15 Holly Holm out-pointed Anne Sophie Mathis over ten rounds in Albuquerque, NM, reversing a seventh round TKO win by Mathis six months earlier in the same New Mexico venue. (AUG 29) Costa Mesa, CA- It was first for the sport of boxing as fight promoter Roy Englebrecht introduced the first ever live Twitter feed at his Fight Club OC show on August 16th. All fans in attendance at the sold out show were able to tweet their comments to all fans in attendance and even were encouraged to tweet their scoring of each bout. (AUG 18) The A.I.B.A, the governing body for the amateur sport ,worldwide, Saturday, described the 2012 boxing programme as ‘one of the finest Olympic boxing competitions of all time, adding that ‘ London 2012 will hold fond memories for the boxing family and the Olympic Movement’.  In particular the Association declared that the introduction of women boxers - the last Olympic sport to include both sexes - was considered to be one of the highlights of the entire London 2012 Olympic Games, enticing spectators and media from around the world to one of the hottest venues of the past weeks.  Full Story

(AUG 18)  On Thursday night at the Mandaluyong Sports Complex, Metro Manila, Philippines, in a six-rounder , strawweight Carleans Rivas, 111, had a six round split draw with Christine Latube, 110. (AUG 15) Mia St. John has literally gone full circle in this sport. She has a long history of the good, the bad, and the ugly, of what women's boxing has brought to this sport.   In her early years as a boxer, St. John was criticized at times for opponents she was up against when she fought under the tutelage of promoter Bob Arum.  But through it all ....St John has stuck to her game plan, and has ultimately succeeded in what she has wanted to do in the sport.  One of her goals was to fight Christy Martin.  St. John did not only fight  Martin once----but twice now, defeating the "Coal Miner's Daughter" in their second outing.  Full Story

(AUGUST 8) Another 11,000 ‘full house’ here at the ExCeL Centre Arena in London Docklands today for the Women’s semi-finals at the XXX Olympiad. The atmosphere once again, as for the first two days , was ‘electric’ and again those present saw some first class boxing . Most of the crowd this reporter spoke with professed to be ‘seriously impressed’ with the high quality of the action they saw and literally hundreds had simply turned up in the vain hope of finding a ticket – those were mainly ‘new’ supporters of women's boxing as a result of the action they witnessed on TV over the first two days.  Full Story

Marlen Esparza and Claressa Shields Clinch Olympic Medals With Quarterfinal Victories in London

(LONDON, ENGLAND) – Flyweight Marlen Esparza’s (Houston, Texas) decade-long journey in the boxing ring finally culminated in her debut at the 2012 Olympic Games on Monday and the 23-year-old made sure it was a victorious one. The Houston native gave Team USA a much needed win a guaranteed herself at least a bronze medal with a 24-16 victory over Venezuela’s Karla Magliocco. (AUG 3) Alyssa DeFazio was born in New Burgh New York 20 years ago. Her father was a New York Police officer who had to quit the force because of medical reasons. Her Uncle is a police officer and her cousin wears the uniform proudly as well.  Assuming the apple wouldn't fall too far from the tree there was a good chance Alyssa would grow up and become a police officer. At age 4, Alyssa and her family moved from the Empire state to Arizona eventually settling in Wittman a 1 gas station, 1 Subway town situated between Surprise and Wickenburg ....Full Story

(JULY 15) Last night in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Alejandra Oliveras, won a fifth round TKO over Migdalia Asprilla, of San Miguelito, Panama. The two were fighting for the WBO featherweight title--this fight was probably not a "too dangerous" of fight for  Oliveras after reviewing Asprilla 's past opponents and #29 ranking with Boxrec.

(JULY 4) On Saturday night, International Boxing Federation (IBF) Flyweight Champion, Ava “The Lady of Boxing” Knight made her second successful title defense, defeating Susana “Toluquita” Vazquez by unanimous decision at the Auditorio Centenario. The three judges sitting at ringside scored the bout 99-91, 98-92, and 98-92, all in favor of Knight. (JULY 4)  Ava Knight, just 23 years old, of Chico, California, has accomplished more in her young years than most female boxers ever dream of doing.
