Title Defense of Baumgardner Ends in No Contest After Head Clash and Gash on Persoon

(SEPT 29) On Friday night in a mainliner, Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner of Toledo, Ohio retained the WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO super featherweight world titles after her fight against top-ranked contender Delfine Persoon of Belgium was declared a "no contest".  In the fourth round there was an accidental clash of heads with 27 seconds remaining in the fourth round caused a gash to gush blood above Persoon’s right eye. (SEPT 27) ATLANTA-GEORGIA -Tonight at the Lux Studios, in Atlanta, Georgia, there is an all-female boxing card that will feature nine female bouts. In the mainliner, Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner, 15-1-0 (7KO), of Detroit, Michigan, will be facing Delfine Persoon, 49-3-0 (19KO), of Roeselare, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, in a ten-round where Alycia is defending her IBF, IBO, WBC, and WBO Super Featherweight world titles.  Full Story

Melinda Watpool Wins by Decision over Natasha Spence in rematch

 (SEPT 23) On Friday night at the Pickering Casino Resort, Pickering, in Canada, Melinda Watpool won a ten-round unanimous decision over Natasha Spence.  Final judges scores were 99-91, 98-92, and 99-91.  This was a rematch for these two when they fought in December of 2023, when Watpool won that bout by a six-round decision.

Sims, of Salem, Oregon, enters the ring at 6-3-0 (3KO) record, fighting professional since 2019. (SEPT 19) Historical Female bout on February 15, 1998, that took place in Biloxi, Mississippi: Bridgett Riley vs. Yvonne Trevino in a ten-round IFBA World title bout between these two.  Both Bridgett Riley and Yvonne Trevino were inducted in the past in the International WOMEN'S Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHF). This was the first fight I ever viewed of the 1990's boxers in 1998 when I went live with WBAN in May of 1998--- it was amazing seeing these two fight in this ten-rounder. Full Story

(SEPT 13)  Esneidy “La Leona” Rodriguez won the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver atomweight title against defending champion Sana Hazuki on Saturday, September 7. The event was at the Auditorio Benito Juarez in Veracruz, Mexico. Veracruz is a state in Mexico which is where Rodriguez resides. Hazuki is from Fukuoka, Japan.Hazuki was rated the No. 6 atomweight contender by the WBC whereas Rodriguez was rated No. 11.   Full Story

(SEPT 11) In 2001, WBAN covered an exhibition of Regina Halmich vs. German TV presenter Stefan Raab many years ago, where she broke his nose, and then again when they had a rematch in 2007. Well folks, history is repeating itself....Halmich, our 2014 International Women’s Boxing Hall of Famer, and 2023 IWBHF Lifetime achievement award recipient, is again stepping back into the ring---not with a female boxer, but an "entertaining" exhibition with with Raab on September 14, 2024,  the fight entitled, “The Clark Final Fight’ at the Düsseldorf’s PSD Bank Dome.  Full Story

Sequita Hemingway wins second New Zealand title, could the world title be on the horizon?

(SEPT 7) Manawatu's own Sequita Hemingway has won her second New Zealand Heavyweight title by a majority decision over Cheyenne Whaanga, with a possible world title fight in the future.  Hemingway who already holds the New Zealand national (Pro Box NZ version) heavyweight title, has just won the New Zealand national (NZNBF version) heavyweight title against a tough Cheyenne Whaanga who returned to the ring after an eight-year hiatus. Now that Hemingway is a two-time New Zealand heavyweight title, a possible world title fight could be next.  Full Story

Canada:  Melinda Watpool to Rematch Natasha Spence for the WBA International Middleweight Title

(SEPT 7) On September 20, 2024, at the Pickering Casino Resort, in Pickering, Canada, Melinda “The Whip” Watpool, 6-0-0 (2KO), of Toronto, Ontario, Canada is set to have a rematch against Natasha “The Nightmare” Spence, 8-5-2 (6KO), of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.  The two first fought on December 23, 2023, at the same venue, where Watpool won by a six-round unanimous decision, with judges scores saw the fight at 60-54, 60-53, and 60-54. She had a fantastic fight recently where she defeated Adelaida Ruiz, who came into the fight with a 16-0-1 record and gave Ruiz her first loss after as David A. New Zealand world title fight leaves Sky, now live on Youtube

(SEPT 5) There has been a last-minute change for the world title defence between IBF Light Heavyweight champion Lani Daniels vs. Bolatito Oluwole as the promoters move away from Sky to go live on YouTube.  The current market for boxing promoters has gotten expensive. As not many people know, the promoters have to pay for the televised production company, with no financial return from the broadcaster itself, Sky TV.  Full Story

(SEPT 1) WBAN has just added Argentine's female boxer Narazena Romero to our Boxer's Profiles segment.  Romero just recently fought in August at the Casino Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina, winning the fight by a tenth round TKO.  In that fight Valenzuela's corner threw in the towel 30 seconds of the tenth round.  Full Story

(SEPT 1) Nigeria boxer Bolatito Oluwole has arrived in New Zealand for her world title opportunity against two-division world champion and the IBF Light Heavyweight defending champion Maori boxer Lani Daniels. Oluwole arrived at Auckland airport last Friday at 2:30 a.m. to prepare for her first world title opportunity at Globox Arena (formerly known as Claudelands Arena) on September 7th in Hamilton, live on Sky Sports.
