(SEPT 29) On Friday night in
a mainliner, Alycia “The Bomb” Baumgardner of Toledo, Ohio
retained the WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO super featherweight
world titles after her fight against top-ranked contender
Delfine Persoon of Belgium was declared a "no contest". In
the fourth round there was an accidental clash of heads with 27
seconds remaining in the round. It caused a gash to gush
blood above Persoon’s right eye.
The ringside doctor examined the
cut and decided that Persoon could not continue. The fight was
ruled a "no contest" because four rounds had not been completed.
If four rounds had been completed, then the judges’ scorecards
would have determined the outcome. Baumgardner is still the
undisputed world super featherweight champion. Even though
it states on the fight poster that this was for the WBC Super
Featherweight Championship, the other four sanctioning bodies
decided to sanction this fight as well. Their records remain the
same except for one no contest added for Baumgardner (15-1, 7
KOs, 1 NC) and Persoon (49-3, 19 KOs, 2 NC).
Persoon had a
previous bout in 2022 that ended in a no contest against Ikram
Kerwat. Two of Persoon’s three losses were by close decisions
against Katie Taylor. Taylor is currently the undisputed world
super lightweight champion. In addition to her boxing career,
Persoon is a full-time police officer in Belgium.

evenly matched fight for ten rounds between Rodriguez and Naert.
