Yvonne Reis Accepts Last minute fight in New Hampshire!

(NOV 1) Female boxer Yvonne Reis,  at the age of 46 years old, will be fighting her "last" professional boxing match,  in New Hampshire, on November 10th against Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes. Two Female Bouts Featured on Boxing Card in France

(OCT 31) Tomorrow night at the Gymnase Pierre de Coubertin, Maubeuge, Nord, France, there are two female bouts. In the first bout, lightweights Cindy Bonhiver will face Prisca Vicot in an eight rounder. In a scond bout, Nassera Kebaili will fight Zsofia Bedo, super featherweight - six rounds.

Austria's Niki Wesner Goes Pro

(OCT 30) Viennese Niki Wesner will make her pro debut at the Halle/Saale in Germany against Tanja Hengstler in a four-round bout.  Wesner learned the trade of the "sweet science" at Viennese Bounce Boxing Club under Dani Nader, brother of current EU-middleweight challenger Marcos Nader. (OCT 28) Tonight (Japan's time zone) at the Furukawa Gymnasium, in Miyagi, Japan, Naoko Fujioka won a UD10 over Victoria Argueta from Mexico. Fujioka's successful WBC mini flyweight (105lbs) title defense. In the semi-finals of this event, Fujin Raika TKO'd Bas Sor Tammajak from Thai in the secondround of a scheduled eight-rounder at 60kg catch weight.

Last night at the Las Pulgas, in Tijuana, Mexico, there was an all-female card.  In the mainliner, Joselyn Ruiz, won by a second round TKO over Yadira Trejo.  The fight was scheduled for 10-rounds, for the vacant NABF flyweight title.  In a scheduled four round bout, flyweight Kenia Enriquez won by a second round TKO over Carol Castro Madrid; Flyweight Brenda Flores, making her pro debut won a four-round split decision over Paloma Lopez; bantamweight Sandra Robles, pro debut, won a four-round unanimous decision over Kealoni Vanderleest; bantamweight Angelica Dominguez won a four-round unanimous decision over Abigail Casteneda; and light flyweight Jolene Blackshear made it a short night by stopping her opponent, Lili Barajas, in the first round by TKO in a scheduled four round bout.

(OCT 25)  On October 23, 2012, I made a [negative] comment about an  online Article  published on the Guardian.co.uk website, where they wrote about a female who was going to fight in an amateur competition bout after training for only 60 days.  I had said the following preceding to posting the external link:  "Again, when can this sport get to the point when we see women who have trained a significant amount of time before competing, amateur or pro?" ..Full Story

(OCT 21) On June 21-22, 2013, at the Art Bar, Gladstone Hotel, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada,  Hosted by Brock University, the legacy of women’s boxing, including women fighting for financial gain, traces back to the first half of the 18th century. Yet women’s amateur boxing only became legalized in many parts of the Americas in the late 1970's briefly and then did not reappear until the early 1990s. There are now over 120 international boxing federations with registered female competitors, and the debut of women’s boxing at the London Olympics placed it on an international stage...Full Details

WBF Release: Anne Sophie De Costa Wins Vacant title

(OCT 21) Anne Sophie Da Costa of France won the vacant World Boxing Federation Women’s World Strawweight title on Saturday night (October 20), when she defeated Thailand’s former World Champion Teeraporn Pannimit at the Salle Schmitt in Sedan, Ardennes, France. Rather disappointingly Pannimit failed to make weight and therefore couldn't win title, and the visitor did appear much bigger than Da Costa. Early on it looked like she might be able to use that advantage to overpower her opponent, but after the first three rounds Da Costa managed to use good movement and footwork to avoid the pressure and score with quick combinations. ..Full Story

Katie Taylor Sets Her Sights On The Road To Rio

(OCT 19) Ireland’s 60kg, Olympic Gold medallist, five times European and four times World Champion Katie Taylor today confirmed that she will remain an amateur and hopes to defend her Olympic title in Rio.  Taylor was in no hurry to make a decision, quietly summing up the pros and cons of a professional career as against remaining an amateur. According to ‘usually reliable sources’ she turned down several lucrative offers from promoters in Ireland, the UK and the United States among them Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and Ireland’s Brian Peters Promotions as well as two UK offers. One such offer is said to have been worth ‘hundreds of thousands of Euros’.  Full Story

(OCT 13) Just when we are seeing some really great matchups this weekend where many of the top female boxers will be fighting for world titles, we have one of the most embarrassing matchups taking place for a WIBF light welterweight title.  According to Boxrec, 24-year old Marie Riederer, of Weisswasser, Germany, 12-1-1 (9KO), will be fighting 39-year old Angel McKenzie, 4-27-0, of Brixton, London, tonight in Ofen Stadthalle, Velten, Brandenburg, Germany.

(OCT 9) All four age groups opened preliminary action on Monday night at the 2012 National PAL Championships. The night showcased several former national champions as well as reigning World Champion Tiara Brown (Lehigh Acres, Fla.) at the Seagate Centre in Toledo, Ohio.
