(OCT 17) Hi this is your friend
Esmeralda “Joya” Moreno, current and proudly WBC light flyweight
champion of the world.
On many occasions I have been asked why I box. I
guess people still find it hard to believe that a woman can be
in boxing, they still have the idea that “women belong in
the kitchen”, fortunately that has changed a lot, yet there are
still people who think that boxing is a sport exclusive for only
men.
My path through boxing hasn’t been easy, I have had to go
through a lot of obstacles to reach my goals; I have made this
possible with discipline. Since I began, I knew I could get to
the top and become world champion; I only needed somebody who
believed in me.
That’s how I made my professional debut on April 20, 2005
against Clara Perez, to whom I defeated by a unanimous decision
in what was a very special night for me, because I was aware
that I had begun to write my own story in boxing history.
Nevertheless the night that I remember the most is the one when
I defeated Naomi Togashi to gain the WBC light flyweight title.
It was a very tough fight, she was very strong and very fast,
but I had had a very good training along with my will of
conquering my dream of becoming world champion, defeat was not
in my plan. That’s how by the fourth round I found her weak spot
and I went over it by landing jabs with my left hand and right
blows that damaged the Japanese.
At the end of the fight when the judges announced the scores I
was thrilled, the excitement I felt was amazing I couldn’t
believe it, I had made my dream come true.
Boxing has given me a lot.
I am very passionate about boxing, but also about my family, to
whom I deeply love; I thank them for being with me at all times,
supporting all the decisions I make.
I remember those long family trips, we like go to Ixtapa
Zihuatanejo, a beautiful beach located very near Guerrero.
Ixtapa Zihuatanejo has over 22 miles of beach, where you can not
only marvel at its beauty, while resting on the sand, but you
can also go on an adventure, whether in a boat or diving.
I am surprised as a growing tourist place like this, can merge
so harmoniously with the natural beauty because in Ixtapa
Zihuatanejo can take a short break, go for adventure, fishing,
diving and even to party, go out to night clubs and bars. To be
honest I prefer to be more in touch with nature, relax and take
time for me.
One of my favorite places is Barra de Potosi, a very small beach
near Ixtapa, it is also known as Playa Blanca (White beach), I
guess it’s because the color of the sand that mixes with the
beautiful blue color of the sea. In this amazing place there is
also a huge lagoon where you can see wildlife, hundreds of
exotic birds that play whimsically around the lagoon. Also, if
you are eating at some of the restaurants that are within
walking distance of the beach, you will surely find a local
resident who will tell you an old legend, which says that in
Barra de Potosi a big treasure, is buried there.
Come to Ixtapa Zihuatanejo and get marveled by its beauty
