Katie Taylor Goes Back to school; Talks about going Pro
by Sue TL Fox
October 3, 2012

(OCT 3) There was a nice bit of news on Gold Medal winner amateur boxer Katie Taylor, of Ireland,  when she visited a grade school recently.

In the video, Taylor talked about possibly making a decision to turn pro or not.

WBAN would like to comment on Taylor turning pro at this time.  WBAN to Taylor: DO NOT GO PRO YET!

Why...she may ask?  WBAN believes that it is not the time to turn pro.  The purses are low, especially in the United States, and with Taylor's background in the sport, she will probably "starve" for opponents to fight.  We have seen this with many of great female fighters who cannot get someone to fight them.

We feel that if she turns pro now, it will end in great regret for her, and Taylor has worked too hard up to this point to change her game plan in the sport.

We would like to suggest to Taylor to STAY IN THE AMATEURS and compete in the 2016 Olympics, THEN turn Pro. In this four year period until 2016, the pro side of the  sport hopefully will have a more sturdy foundation that develops, now that we have had female boxers accepted for the first time in the Olympics.
