Kyana Williams Wins a bronze medal at prestigious National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions

(MAY 30) Today WBAN has added Kyana "Special Kay"  Williams, a Providence police officer Kyana by day and female boxer while not on duty to our Boxer's Profile segment.  On May 28th, we received an update of Kyana that she is now a 2024 New England Golden Gloves Champion, captured a bronze medal in the welterweight (146-pound) division at the recent National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions hosted by the City of Detroit.  Full Story

(MAY 27) BANGKOK, Thailand -- Jamar Talley (Camden, N.J.) mades a statement win in his Second Olympic World Qualification Tournament debut. Talley went head-to-head with Ali Faithigovashini out of Iran. Talley, however, made this a quick fight and ended it in the first round due to a referee stoppage.  Full Story

Dina Thorslund Successfully Defends her WBC/WBO World Titles against Seren Cetin

(MAY 27) On Saturday night at the Royal Arena, in Copenhagen, Denmark, Dina Thorslund, 117 1/4,  of Denmark defeated Seren Cetin, 117 1/4, of Instanbul, Turkey in a ten-round unous decision. Thorslund successfully defended her WBC and WBO Bananimtamweight world titles. The final judges' scores were 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91. Full Story

(MAY 25) BANGKOK, Thailand – Alyssa Mendoza (Caldwell, Idaho) picked up Team USA first win with a unanimous decision victory over Bolortuul Tumurkhuyag out of Mongolia in day one of boxing in Bangkok, Thailand.  Mendoza, who won three medals in 2023, is looking for a similar result in Bangkok. Two Female Bouts on Argentina Card

(MAY 20)  Last night in Cordoba, Argentina,  Dayana Estefania Diaz, 115,  won a four-round unanimous decision over  Daiana Belen Bondaruk, 116 1/2.  In a second female bout, Juliana Vanesa Basualdo, 120, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Eliana Vanesa Orecchia, 122.  Final judges scores were 100-88, on all cards.

Tonight: Female Bout on card at the Palaboxe Aurelio Santoro, in Roma, Italy

 (MAY 17) Tonight (Friday, May 17)  at the Palaboxe Aurelio Santoro, in Roma, Italy,  Silvia "Cash Bomber"  Bignami, 29-years old, of Roma, and undefeated at 4-0-0, will be fighting Giorgia Scolastri, 4-2-0, also from Roma.  The two are fighting for the EBU European Light Flyweight title, in a ten-round bout.

(MAY 14) Yesterday morning WBAN received a letter from multi-hall of famer Stephen Blea in regards to a authentic one-of-a-kind WBC belt to put up for auction to support women's boxing and to keep the process going with the sport.  Stephen Blea wrote the following:

Lt. Dan Hennessey calls it quits after controversy

(MAY 14) The voice behind New Zealand and Australia combat sports, MC Lt Dan Hennessey, has called it quits on his 18-year international MC career after announcing the wrong name on the World title fight.  Lt Dan Hennessey has announced on social media that he will be retiring from his MC role after the controversy of announcing the wrong winner of a World title fight on 12th of May in Perth Australia. He states that his last fight night will happen in New Plymouth on a Sam Rapira boxing show.  Full Story

(MAY 13) Hamilton Maori boxer Tinta Smith has finally won the historical belt, becoming the first-ever women's New Zealand Cruiserweight champion.  On March 16, Tinta Smith fought Trish Vaka for the first-ever New Zealand national (PBCNZ version) Cruiserweight title, which ended in a draw. (MAY 12) Tauranga-born Maori (Ngāti Ranginui) Cherneka Johnson makes history by becoming the second Maori boxer to become a two-division champion after winning the WBA Bantamweight title against Nina Hughes. (MAY 12) Last night at the Cardiff International Arena, Cardiff, Wales, in front of a packed hours,  Lauren Price, 145 1/2, remained undefeated with now a 7-0-0 (2KO), of Ystrad Mynach, Wales, United Kingdom when she won by a technical decision as Jessica McCaskill, 145, now 12-4-1 (5KO) of Chicago, Illinois, USA, had a nasty cut over her left eye and the scores went to the judges, that had the fight in favor of Price, with 90-82 on all cards. (MAY 3) It is with heavy hearts that the Athletes Voice Committee, a sub-committee of the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports, extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and teammates of Ardi Ndembo, a talented fighter whose life was tragically cut short.  The allegation that Ardi Ndembo was knocked unconscious in training shortly before his fatal bout deeply troubles and concerns us. She traveled all the way from Florida to Portland, Oregon to meet up with me. Sheree is currently working on filming this exciting Docu-Series, which will showcase several talented female boxers including Laura Ramsey, Terri Moss, Carisse "Taz" Brown, and many others. Curry and Popravak Battle to a Split Draw

(MAY 1) On Saturday, April 27th, at the Miccosukee Casino & Resort in Miami, Florida, Olivia Curry, 159.8, and Melody Popravak, 158.4, fought to a draw in a six-round bout in the middleweight division.  The rounds were each two minutes in duration. Curry is a contender in the super middleweight division with a rating of No. 5 by the International Boxing Organization (IBO). Popravak had a record of 1-1 before this fight, but her one loss was by split decision in a four-round bout to super middleweight contender Kaitlin LaVigne who is rated No. 12 by the IBO.  Full Story
