(APRIL 29) NEW YORK--On
Saturday night at the Ajou University, Suwon, South Korea,
former world title challenger Jessica Camara, 135, scored
a huge win as she defeated the "undefeated" and former
two-division world champion Myun Hi Choi, 135, to win the WBA Gold Championship in the lightweight division via a split
decision in Choi's home country of South Korea. Final
judges scores were 94-96, 96-94, and 98-92.
Camara of Montreal who came up just short in a split decision
defeated to unified super lightweight champion Kali Reis, was
able to dominate Choi betaking control of the fight from the
outset.
I had the chance to watch the
entire fight, and in my opinion, the judge who scored it 98-92
for Camara was the most accurate. I have no idea how someone
could have scored it 94-96 for Choi, but maybe they should get
their eyes checked—this fight was not even close.
The fight between Camara vs. Choi
was a great solid fight and both made women's boxing proud this
night.

Throughout the fight, Camara
seemed to control most of the rounds. Camara displayed superior
speed, agility, and aggression, constantly putting pressure on
Choi.

Choi, who remarkably won the WBA featherweight bout at age 17 in
her professional debut, and went on to make seven defenses. Choi
then moved up and won the WBA Super Featherweight title and made
defenses of that title. Choi is now 22-1-1 (5KO).
