meeting up with Elena "Baby Doll" Reid, a flyweight from Las
Vegas, Nevada, who fought from 2000 to 2010. Elena had over
30 fights as a pro boxer. Elena's interest in the
sport began from an early age and she started boxing at age 15. She did not compete as an amateur boxer, but began
her career in combat sports in karate and kickboxing and won an

On Sunday Katie Taylor and her legion of fans
celebrated her 25 – 8 win over Bulgarian champion, Denitsa Eliseeva,
in style, by repeating what we saw - and heard - at
the XXX Olympiad in London 2012. One of the memorable moments of
London 2012 came when Taylor fought and defeated Great Britain’s
Natasha Jonas at the ExCeL Arena in London’s Docklands on a never to
be forgotten occasion for those of us fortunate enough to be

(MAR 22) Back in 2011, A.I.B.A President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu,
announced that the amateur sport’s Governing Body was examining ways
of making the sport more attractive. Among the items under
consideration were a new scoring system, the introduction of AIBA
Pro Boxing and also a review of Rules and regulations including
equipment used. Two years earlier than that the International
Olympic Committee had approved the introduction of women’s boxing,
which as we all know, proved to be one of the great success stories

will be an event unprecedented in the tournament’s prestigious
history. For the first time, the nation’s premier Olympic-style
boxing event will showcase five different divisions in men’s and

national action. The 400-plus boxers currently registered for
the tournament will be broken up into the men’s and women’s

(MAR 18) On Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the Grand Oasis Resort,
Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico, Yesenia Gomez, 107½, won a ten-round
unanimous decision over Arely Valente, 110¾. Both from Quintana Roo,
delivering Arely her first loss as a pro, and winning the WBC youth
Flyweight belt. Final judges scores were 92-98, 93-98, and 93-97.

Bopp Wins by RTD over Alvarez

(MAR 17) Last night in Concordia, Argentina, light flyweight
Yesica Yolanda Bopp, 107½, remained undefeated when she defeated
Carolina Alvarez, 107½, when Alvarez did not come out for the
sixth round, and the fight was ruled a RTD. The fight was scheduled
for 10 rounds, with Bopp defending her WBA/WBO light flyweight
titles.

Canada: Alisah McPhee Won a five
round unanimous decision

(MAR 17) Last night at the River Rock Casino in BC, Canada, there
was a female bout on the card where Alisah McPhee fought Wendy Roy
in a five round Featherweight bout. Alisah McPhee had a relatively short
amateur career, fighting six times before turning pro and winning
her first fight. She faced veteran Wendy Roy in her second fight on
Friday night. Roy is a tough woman who does not back away from

"La Barbie" Juarez will return to the ring in a WBC Super
flyweight final elimination bout against Riyo Togo from Japan,
in a fight that will be very hard for the Mexican, but if she

Taylor seeks fans support for bouts
in Dublin and in Castlebar

14) Having practically raised the roof at the Excel
Arena during last year's Olympic Games Katie Taylor
is hoping that Irish fans can repeat the trick on
home soil for her bouts in Dublin and Castlebar
later this month. The
Irish fans famously topped the charts at last years
games as the atmosphere for Taylor's fights reached
fever pitch with a sound level of 113.7 decibels
recorded at the Excel Arena in London's docklands.
It was the highest decibel level recorded at the
games and fell just short of the noise created by a
jet engine. Now Taylor's fans will get the
opportunity to recreate that atmosphere when she
returns to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin on
Friday, March 22nd before heading West on Sunday,

Prospect Elisha Olivas-Stewart, has moved on from the square
ring for now and since my last story on her that was posted in
the WBAN, Elisha is currently serving our country as Master
Sergeant (E7) in the United States Air Force and is also happily
married to Corey Stewart with Children Luis-12, Raven-11,
Felice-10, Eliana-4, Luciano-2, so as you can see Elisha is very
busy and despite this she still supports boxing in various ways
in the community.
