(MAR 16) LINCOLN, R.I. -
Nearly 5,000 rabid boxing fans filled to the Twin River Casino
Event Center, to watch two former reality-television stars, “The
Pride of Providence,” Peter Manfredo, Jr. battle Walter
“Two-Guns” Wright demonstrating that the demise of boxing in the
United States is considerably exaggerated.
The first bout of the evening, a
female bantamweight battle between prospects Noemi Bosques (1-0,
0 KOs) Providence, R.I. via Saint Petersburg, FL, 113 ½, versus
Vanessa Greco (1-2-1, 0 KOs) Brooklyn, NY, 115 ½, engaged in a
fist-flying affair over four hotly contested rounds.
A “tale of two fights” best describes this match-up pitting a
striking variation of boxing styles and back-and-forth nature of
the action with Greco, the more aggressive fighter, sliding
inside of the Bosques jab and landing in combination to the body
and head from close range in the middle rounds. The speedier
Bosques was more efficient from long-range early and late
keeping Greco at bay with straight punches and lateral movement.
In the end, the assigned judges
fittingly called the fight a majority draw with a single judge
favoring Greco, (39-37 Greco/38-38/38-38). This writer also
scored the bout a draw (38-38). With the draw, Vanessa Greco
witnessed her record move to a deceiving (1-2-2, 0 KOs), whereas
Bosques moved to (1-0-1) remaining unbeaten.
Both fighters expressed interest in a rematch. Noemi Bosques
performed well considering she engaged in this fight just two
weeks removed from the death of her mother in Florida.
