2014 AIBA Women's Worlds no longer set for Canada

(DEC 31)  An announcement is expected early in the New Year from AIBA HQ regarding a new venue for the 2014 AIBA Women's World Elite Championships following the recent news confirmed by Boxing Canada’s President, Pat Fiacco that the event will not now take place in Canada as originally scheduled.  Full Story

Nordic Fight Night postponed with New date of February 1st due to Braekhus picks up eye injury during training

(DEC 23)  The Nordic Fight Night in Frederikshavn has been postponed by two weeks due to an eye injury sustained by mult-world champion (WBC/WBA/WBO) Welterweight Champion Cecilia Braekhus (23-0, 7 KOs). Braekhus will now face Myriam Lamare (22-3, 10 KOs) at the Arena Nord on February 1.  “When it comes down to a fighter´s health, we cannot take any risks,” said promoter Nisse Sauerland. “The doctors have ordered Cecilia to sit out practice for ten days, which made it impossible for her to be in top shape on January 18. (DEC 14)  Last night at the Zaal Forum, Aalst, Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium, Delfine Persoon, now 28-1-0 (13KO), won a 10th round TKO over Lucia Morelli, now 18-3-0,  to win the WIBF, WIBA and WBF Lightweight titles. According to Boxrec, Morelli went down in the sixth and the ninth round, with Persoon being deducted a point for hitting Morelli on the way down in 9th. Full Story

The sport of boxing takes "unique" to a further subset of physicality and a psychological strength, given that the primary purpose of that sport is to render physical harm to your opponent. Voraberger Wins by a First Round Stoppage

(DEC 9) On Saturday night at the Speedfit Sporthalle in Vienna, Austria, in a WBF title fight, Eva Voraberger won the vacant Intercontinental Womens Flyweight championship, stopping Serbian Fleijs Djendji in the first round with a well-placed hook to the liver. Time of stoppage recorded as 1:13. Former World title-challenger Voraberger, now 17-3 (9), Djendji drops to 16-21-1 (10).
