(MAR 5) A
couple of northwest fighters will be in action Saturday, March
8th at the Silver Reef Casino in Ferndale, Washington.
Merced Nunez
(6-1- 0 2KO) will face Caitlin Dance (2-0) in featherweight bout
that will be either four or six rounds. Should the fight be
scheduled for six, it will be Nunez’s first at that distance,
though she said she has been training hard and “the biggest part
of stepping up is mental.” Nunez and Dance have a common
opponent in Clara De La Torre, a woman over whom Nunez scored a
unanimous decision on November 3rd; Dance won a
majority decision over De La Torre three weeks later. Nunez said
she has been spending time in the gym “working on her quickness
and footwork” for this fight against the slick counter puncher
Dance.
Tammie Johnson
(2-0) will also be in action against Tonya Gallegos (4-7 2KO) in
a welterweight bout. Johnson has scored two unanimous decision
wins, both against Jana Simms, while Gallegos lost her last
fight in January 08 after a year and a half layoff. Johnson has
been training hard as she knows that Gallegos “is a tough
competitor.”
