last month we now know the names of the majority of boxers who
will be representing their countries in Rio in August.
After the second, and final, qualifying event for women boxers
taking place in Astana, 33 Olympians are known, and only three
remain to be determined.

Top USA Boxing Athletes Kick Off The
Olympic Year in Joint Training Camp

February 2, 2016 (FEB 2) COLORADO SPRINGS,
COLO. (February 2, 2016) - While a February blizzard descended
on the state of Colorado, the United States' top boxers closed
their first training camp of 2016 at the U.S. Olympic Training
Center in Colorado Springs. USA Boxing's Olympic Trials winners
opened the Olympic year in a joint training camp with the top
women's squad from Great Britain, including 2012 Olympic flyweight

ceremony duly took place Friday night at the Louis Fitzgerald
Hotel in Dublin and we can now reveal who received the awards
which covered, the entire Irish boxing scene male and female,
Elite, Intermediate, Youth and Junior level as well as coaches,
referees, judges, clubs and volunteers.
The main ‘boxer’ awards, not unexpectedly went to Michael Conlan,

Katie Taylor set to meet Queen
Underwood in Tralee on 20th February?

January 26, 2016 (JAN 26) Fans of the
‘amateur’ sport will be delighted to hear that many times USA &
Pan American champion Queen Underwood’s last fight as an amateur
is likely to take place in Ireland on February 20th with ‘
usually reliable sources’ suggesting the bout is set to be in
Kerry and organised by one of the local clubs, perhaps Tralee
BC.
One can never rule out though the very enterprising Trojan BC in
Listowel under Head Coach Grahame Ball, Club Secretary Maria
Brosnan and Kerry PRO, Niamh Ball herself an Irish champion at

EUBC confirms changes of date & venue
for AOB European Olympic Qualifiers -by Michael O'Neill
-January 22, 2016 (JAN 22) The European Boxing
Confederation (EUBC) has today confirmed that the dates and
venue of the 2016 AOB European qualifiers have been changed.
This brief note appears on the organisation's website Friday
morning.
"The AIBA Executive Committee approved the change of the dates
and the Host City of the upcoming AOB European Olympic
Qualifiers. The Competition will be held in Samsun (Turkey) from
upcoming April 7-18 (Changed from Istanbul April 20 – May 1)....Full

the AIBA to issue a clear statement Olympic Qualifiers

from ‘sources close to the AIBA’ that the European Olympic
Qualifiers will now start on April 7th following representations
from a number of National Federations, boxers and coaches. The

The Finalists Are Set After 55
Semi-final Bouts at the Junior Open and Youth National Championships

Fifty-five bouts took place in 2016 Junior Open and Youth
National Championships semifinal competition on Friday in Reno,
Nev. All of the day's winners in today's bouts at the Grand
Sierra Resort Summit Pavilion moved on to Saturday's
championship round. Women's action moved in to full swing
on Friday with multiple returning champions and world medalists

January 8, 2016-(JAN 8) Great news for Irish
boxing, indeed other sports too, in advance of the forthcoming
Olympic Games and the World and European Championships as
Minister Paschal Donohoe held a media briefing Thursday.
For many years now there has been a demand from Ireland’s
leading boxers and many coaches for a new ‘State of the Art’ HP
Unit to replace the existing facilities at the National Stadium
in Dublin. Their wish finally came true and they will be able to

Sixty-Seven Boxers Advances to the

Thursday's quarterfinal round featured the heaviest day of
competition at the 2016 Junior Open and Youth National
Championships in Reno, Nev. More than 65 bouts were contested
today at the Grand Sierra Resort Summit Pavilion with all of the
day's competitors advancing on to Friday's semifinals.
The female competitors took the ring for the first time in
Thursday's evening competition and Iyana Verduzco (East Los

Katie Taylor's 10 year reign as

Ireland’s Katie Taylor, (one of our WBAN ‘Amateurs of the Year
2015) began 2016 as the AIBA World no.1 Lightweight just as she
has done ever since first reaching the top of the podium back in
