(MAR 4) On Friday night (2009-02-29) in the gymnasium of the
Auditorio Centenario in Gómez Palacio (Durango), Yazmín “Rusita”
Rivas had to battle for “ten emotional rounds”, as Humberto Vázquez
Frayre of El Siglo de Torreón saw them, to obtain a unanimous
decision over the rangy Lina Ramírez, who never ceased to make
things complicated for her. With 20-year-old Rivas carrying the
fight throughout to her 28-year-old opponent, displaying the best of
her repertoire and plenty of ring speed, and Ramírez turning in an
efficient and forceful performance to keep the youngster in check,
neither fighter was ever in difficulty; which is perhaps what Luis
Salcedo Cassio of La Afición meant when he said “it was a
fight that fell short of being spectacular and was at times
downright boring”.
