IN A HISTORY-FIRST FOR WBAN, we have two top female
Multi-World Champion boxers as our "WBAN's 2023
Fighter(s) of the Year"! Katie Taylor and
Amanda "The Real Deal" Serrano. Both earned this honor by their
continued success in the sport of Women's Boxing. Both are
not only the best in their weight classes, but are
inspirational, role models for others, and the list goes on!
Katie
Taylor's weight class has a total of 148 Active Boxers, and is
#1 in the World. Amanda Serrano, also #1 in the
world, has a total of 202 active boxers in her weight
class. WBAN looks at the pool of boxers within a weight
class to also determine the competition a fighter faces in their
perspective weight class. In 2023, Taylor seeked her revenge
in an rematch with Chantelle Cameron, after losing their first
fight in Ireland. Serrano brought great attention to the
sport when she had a world title fight with 12 rounds, at three
minutes per round. She is an out-spoken advocate for what she
feels about the progression of the sport. |

Records" presented to her by Mauricio Suliaman, WBC President.

Cameron fought the undefeated multi-world champion Katie
Taylor the first time in Taylor's homeland on May 20, 2023,
in Dublin, Ireland. Cameron delivered Katie Taylor's first
defeat as a professional boxer by a 10-round majority decision;
IN ANOTHER HUGE UPSET for 2023, Julissa Alejandra Guzman
stopped Ramla Ali in the eighth round by KO; and
on December 9, 2023, at the Chase Center, San
Francisco, California, IN A UNEXPECTED UPSET, Miyo Yoshida, 117¾, of New York won a ten-round unanimous
decision over Ebanie Bridges, 117½, of New South Wales, Australia. The two
were fighting for the vacant IBF Bantamweight World Title. Judges

2023 ESPYS Becomes First Female Boxer to Win the "Best Boxer"
honor! Boxing superstar Claressa “G.W.O.A.T.”
Shields continued to make history this week, as the world’s top
pound-for-pound women’s boxer was awarded the 2023 ESPY Award
for “Best Boxer” prior to Wednesday’s award ceremony. Shields
became the first ever female boxer to win the award that has
been given out since 1993.

Amazing Road That Melinda
Cooper has Taken in and out of the Ring!

(AUG 4) It has been quite an amazing road for retired world
champion and Hall of Famer Melinda "La Maravilla" Cooper, of Las
Vegas, Nevada. I first began covering Melinda Cooper when she
was just a mere kid, as an amateur boxer. One day as I was
checking out the emails coming into WBAN, we received a photo of
Cooper from Las Vegas Photographer Mary Ann Owen. Owen went on
to introduce me to this young amateur and kept WBAN updated for many
years as Cooper progressed through the sport.

just added Ann Marie Carrizales to our segment, "Women Cops Who
Box." She has an amazing survivor story as a police officer,
and we have the Dash Cam Footage video link attached to her
biography regarding the night she was shot in the face and chest,
and continued to pursue the suspects. Not only has she
continues to be outstanding law enforcement officer throughout the
years, but WBAN covered her when she was an outstanding amateur
female boxer through her earlier years. You can read all that
she has done in law enforcement, her boxing experiences and what she
is doing now---let's just put it this way...She is truly amazing!

Carolyn Goodman will once again make a proclamation for our
event, which is an official announcement issued to recognize a

the Induction Ceremony/Dinner event Saturday, October 7th, will
