Best-Kept Secret of
Fighter 2022
Ebanie Bridges
New South Wales, Australia |
5' 1" bantamweight Ebanie "Blonde Bomber"
Bridges, now 9-1-0 (4KO), of New South Wales, Australia is
quickly gaining momentum in 2022, when she had one of her best
fights so far, TKO'ing Shannon O'Connell in the eighth rounds.
Each fight Bridges just keeps getting better and better, and
when she stopped O'Connell she successfully defended her IBF
Bantamweight World title belt in the ten-round scheduled bout.
She is a fighter to keep your eye on! |
|
|
Layla McCarter |
Most Inspirational of the Year
2022
Layla "Amazing"
McCarter |
If you met this
fighter, eight-time world champion Layla
"Amazing" McCarter, 45,-13-5 (11KO) on the
street, you would never know all of the
accomplishments she has made in the sport.
She is not only one of the top female boxers in
the sport today, but she also pays her dues
outside the ring, supporting other fighters, and
more....She absolutely fits her ringname of
being totally "Amazing!". |

Hottest Female Rising
Star(s) in 2022
Nina Hughes
5-0-0 (2KO)
Billericay, Essex, United Kingdom
Gabriela Fundora
9-0-0 (4KO)
Coachella, California, USA
Alycia Baumgardner
"The Bomb"
13-1-0 (7KO)
Detroit, Michigan, USA
|
Nina Hughes stayed very busy in 2022
fighting four times. In December of 2022, she was up
against Jamie Mitchell, where many assumed that the reigning WBA
Bantamweight world champion would more than likely easily defend
her title, against the 4-0-0 Hughes, but that night, Hughes won
the fight by a ten round unanimous decision and became the world
champion raising her record to 5-0-0.
Gabriela Fundora had five fights in 2022, winning all
five (with two by TKO). In 2021, she had five fights
with one that resulted into a nc. Fundora has also fought
many times out of venue with many of her fights thus far.
In her last fight in 2022, she won the WBC Latino Flyweight
title that was vacant against Naomi Arellano Reyes.
Alycia Baumgardner, 13-1-0 (7KO), is a
fighter to be reckoned with! She delivered Mikaela Mayer's first
professional loss winning a split decision and winning the IBF,
IBO, WBC, and WBO Super Featherweight titles. She stopped Terri
Harper in the fourth round of a ten-round scheduled world title
bout for the IBO and WBC Super Featherweight titles, and she
continues to plow her way, staying at the top of her game in the
sport! |

2022: The year that Continues to
change Women's Boxing
October 13, 2022 |
When Katie Taylor first started
boxing, she had to do it under the guise of the name Kay due to
the fact that boxing was illegal for women in Ireland. That’s
right, Taylor had to pretend to be a boy in order to follow her
dream. Incredibly, two decades after the days when the Irish
boxer had to duck and dive the authorities in order to get into
the ring, Taylor headlined the biggest night in women’s boxing
when she fought Amanda Serrano at Madison Square Garden in April
of this year.

(JAN 16) This will truly be the most surreal part of the
upcoming International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame Induction
Ceremony event that takes place on
Saturday,
October 22, 2022, at the Orleans Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas,
Nevada! Here is a little trivia for the boxing folks that have
followed WBAN for many years on the net---over 23 years now, believe it
or not! Many have asked or wondered, WHY did I choose the
ORLEANS HOTEL & CASINO, in LAS VEGAS, NEVADA as our International
Women's Boxing Hall of Fame event, that we are holding annually.

The International Women's Boxing Hall
of Fame Inducts first-ever former Boxing Commissioner
by Bernie McCoy
February 22, 2022 |
(FEB 22) The International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHF)
inductees skew heavily, in number, toward the retired boxers upon whom
the sport has made it’s often arduous climb to it’s rightful place in
the spectrum of professional sports. That circumstance is entirely as it
should be, for without these athletes, their finely developed skill in
the ring and their indomitable struggle for rightful recognition outside
the ropes, Women’s boxing might still be a second rate attraction,
drawing sideshow attention for many of the wrong reasons.

(AUGUST 21, 2022) Yes, I understand folks that we at times want
to bury the true history of the sport---especially when "today's"
promoters want so badly to claim a "History-first". Please for
those doing that, don't erase the blood, sweat, and tears of those
before today's boxers.
