(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO) – Dr. Charles Butler (Kalamazoo, Mich.), a long-term ringside physician and AIBA committee member, has been elected to serve as the President/Chair of USA Boxing. Butler was chosen by his fellow USA Boxing Board of Directors members to fill the role following the removal of Hal Adonis as President.  “It is a great honor to be elected President of USA Boxing 16 days before our team leaves for London. Kali Reis to fight Lyneisha Jefferson

(JUNE 27) On Friday night, June 29th, on the "Takeover" Professional Boxing Show, at the Rhode Island Convention Center, a boxing event featuring eight bouts, with one of them a female bout on the undercard.  Kali Reis will be fighting Lyneisha Jefferson in a four rounder.  Reis, hometowner, dons a 4-1-1 (2KO) record, her opponent is 0-1, of New Jersey.  Full Story

(JUNE 27)  On Saturday, July 14, 2012,  Mariana "La Barbie" Juarez, will defend her WBC flyweight World Crown against Japan's female boxer Shindo Go in a 10-round title bout. (JUNE 25) WBAN has just posted a full fight video of the Saturday night fight, on June 23, 2012, that took place at the  Estadio Cr. Gaston Guelfi/ Palacio Peñarol, in Montevideo, Uruguay, between light welterweight Chris Namus vs. Adriana Salles.  Namus won this bout by a 10-round unanimous decision. Video Link

 (JUNE 24) Last night in Puebla, Mexico, there were two female bouts on the card. In one bout, Esmeralda Moreno, won a UD10, over Naomi Togashi, winning the WBC light flyweight world title. In the second bout, Yazmin Rivas, won a UD10,  over Nydia Feliciano. The two were fighting for the IBF bantam title.  Flash Photo Slideshow of both bouts!

(JUNE 23) Tonight (Saturday), at the La Villita Maverick Plaza, in San Antonio, Texas, on the undercard of the Hector Camacho Jr. vs, Bernardo Guereca eight rounder, Christina Ruiz, 119.5, will fight Nohime Dennisson, 119, in a four-round bout.  A very cool twist to this undercard fight is that multi-world champion Holly Holm is at this event (as seen in the photos), and WBAN has been told that she will be the second with Nohime Dennisson, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, with a 4-2-1 record, and that retired former world champion Ann Wolfe, will be working with Christina Ruiz, 6-4-1 (4KO), of San Antonio....Full Story with photos

(JUNE 20) WBAN received some quick updates on the IBF Federation. Additional info on the June 30, 2012 card in Torreon, Mexico. There are TWO female title bout:   Ava Knight will fight Susana Vasquez for the IBF Flyweight title; and  Katia Gutierrez vs. Susan Cruz Perez, for the IBF Mini-flyweight title. At the IBF convention held in May/June of this year, , Katia Gutierrez was picked as the IBF female fighter of the year.

Queen Underwood: New Olympic Addition

(JUNE 19)  In a media teleconference, originating from Colorado Springs, USA Boxing introduced Queen Underwood as the newest addition to the 2012 Olympic female boxing squad. Underwood, who will compete as a lightweight, joins flyweight Marlen Esparaza and middleweight Claressa Shields on the three woman US squad that will compete in London in July. (JUNE 19) Queen Underwood, of Seattle, Washington,  received the call she had been dreaming about for over a month on Monday morning, and the voice on the other line delivered the message she’d been hoping for. The 28-year-old lightweight immediately fell into tears upon learning that she would be nominated to compete in the inaugural Olympic Games for women’s boxing in London. Underwood received the call from USA Boxing Executive Director Anthony Bartkowski at approximately 10 a.m. PT and was too emotional to speak after receiving the news. ..Full Story

Lamonakis and Woodard Fight to a Split Draw!

(JUNE 15) Last night at the Roseland Ballroom, in New York,  Sonya Lamonakis, 234, fought to a six-round split draw with Tiffany Woodard, 198. Final judges scores were 58-56, 56-58, and 57-57.  This was the third time that the two have gone to battle in the ring, with Lamonakis defeating her in both of those past fights.

(JUNE 4) On Saturday night, on the boxing card "Explosive Power VI", and promoted by HG Boxing and Promociones del Pueblo, Guadalajara, Mexico, there was a women's bout, featuring Irma Sanchez vs. Ibeth Zamora.  Sanchez was defending her WBF flyweight title in a ten-rounder on the co-main feature.  Although the fight was a great example of women in the ring, it ended with controversial overtones as to who really won the bout.  Instead of WBAN second guessing who won this fight, we will leave that up to boxing fans who can view each round!  If you would like to comment on your own .
