(JUNE 6) On Monday, WBAN ran
a story, that had the complete 10-round video fight of the Irma Sanchez
vs. Ibeth Zamora that took place in Mexico on Saturday.
WBAN decided to let the boxing community give their own thoughts
of the fight after we posted the 10-rounder on the site.
The fight reports and comments are in and this is what was said:
Coach Lee Shabaka |
First off, let me first say that this was one heck
of a fight...One of the best 10 round Women's bouts that
I've seen in a while. Both fighters should
be commended on an excellent job, both women were
very skillful with tons of guts. With that said,
I'm gonna have to go with Zamora. She is an effective
pressure fighter and in this fight she outworked
Sanchez. Sanchez did a good job trying to box Zamora and
counter-punch but I still feel that Zamora pulled it
off. These two should meet again for a rematch.

After viewing the ten-round match between Sanchez and
Zamora, I definitely feel as though "La Roca"
Zamora should have won the decision. I would have scored
the fight eight-rounds for Zamora, One round Sanchez and
one round even. Throughout the match Zamora threw
punches in punches, landing far more than her opponent
who was throwing arm punches and clinching consistently
throughout the ten rounds. It was a very exciting fight
to
watch, but the decision was blatantly unfair.

Sanchez may have won the second round, however, I had it
a shutout for Ibeth Zamora Silva. Just a ridiculous
decision-----Sanchez tried her best, but Zamora Silva
was overwhelming.
These crowds, promoters, etc, make a prize fight into a
nationalistic war . They viewed this [sell it may be a
better expression] as Mexico vs Argentina. This is true
throughout the boxing world, this fight happened to be
in Mexico . Whether its Germany, Argentina, Uruguay,
etc, these terrible decisions spoil the sport . It would
be great if we could get more neutral venues .
For some stupid reason, the US media refuses to give
women's boxing its due. The fights are very entertaining
& the women fighters deserve better!

I think Silva slugged this one out and had the better of
the exchanges. I felt the same way about my fight with
Mucino. I think a rematch is in order in both cases,
then the winner of both should fight. I would like some
new belts to add to my collection.

YUP, ripped off big time. However I gotta give big marks
to Sanchez. She got hit everywhere and with
everything and was still standing after 10. I
thought any minute she would go down. If she had
gone down it would have been all over very quickly.
My call, Zamora by a landslide.

This is a lesson to boxers. Sometimes you need a
knockout to put the issue to bed once and for all. Never
leave decisions to the judges, my verdict Zamora won by
unanimous decision. She threw more leather than Sanchez,
connected more whilst Sanchez resorted to clinching and
failed to connect with any of her town. A rematch is
needed and preferably at a neutral venue.

Comments on the
Internet |
On the net we found many comments and "every comment"
made was in favor of Zamora, from boxing fans who said
that Zamora threw the most accurate punches out of the
two, to point blank stating that Zamora was ripped off
and/or "robbed".
