Ramla Ali Makes A History-First by fighting a Pro bout in Saudi Arabia

(AUGUST 25) 5'7" Super Bantamweight Ramla Ali born in Mogadishu, Somalia, recently made a history-first along with her opponent Crystal Garcia Nova, when they fought at the Jeddah Superdome, in Saudi Arabia in a scheduled eight-round bout.  The fight did not last too long when in the first round (1:05) Ramla won by a KO.  Full Story

57-Year Old Pioneer Female Boxer Carmen "la Guapa" Montiel Passes Away

(AUG 23) This last Sunday, August 21, 2022, Carmen “La Guapa” Montiel, a significant pioneer of women’s boxing in Argentina passed away when she had died in a fire of her home.  She was just 57 years old.  Carmen leaves with a legacy of being the second female boxer to be issued a professional boxing license by the Argentine Boxing Federation.   Full Story

(AUG 10) On September 8, 2022, at the Cuidad Deportiva Heiner Ugalde, Hatillo, San Jose, in Costa Rica, there will be two female bouts featured on the card.  In one bout,  A newly signed female boxer with Golden Boy Promotions, IBF Minimumweight World champion, Yokasta "Yoka" Valle, 25-2 (9KO), of Costa Rica, will be facing undefeated WBO Minimumweight World Champion Thi Thu Nhi Nguyen, (5-0 (1KO), of Vietnam.  The two are fighting for the IBF and WBO Minimumweight World titles.  Full Story

Rica Aquino Wins by a second TKO against Erika Ballen

(AUG 9) On Sunday night at the Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex, Paranaque City, Philippines,  Rica "Baby Dynamite" Aquino, of the Philippines, won by a second round TKO over Erika Ballen, also from the Philippines, who was making her pro debut. The bout was scheduled for four rounds. Aquino improved her record to 1-0-1 (1KO), and Ballen is 0-1-0.

(AUG 5, 2022) Many of you may not be aware of this---but Bob Arum of Top Rank tried to offer some of us Pioneer female boxers a one-year boxing contract of three fights in 1977.....WBAN would like to share this rare document with the boxing community.  The contract that was offered was a one-year contract, with the first fight being $4,000, second fight, 5,000, and third fight $6,000.  But like all things happening in the sport especially in the past it never ended up materializing.   Full Story

Michelle Preston wins WBA Oceania title

(AUG 5) UK-born New Zealand boxer Michelle Preston wins her second WBA regional title against New Zealand-born Australian boxer Nicila Costello.  The five-time World Kickboxing Champion, Michelle Preston, won her first WBA title in 2007 when she became the first ever WBA PABA Bantamweight champion. 15 years later she wins her second WBA regional title with a win against Nicila Costello for the WBA Oceania Super Flyweight title.  Full Story

Deseree Jamison Wins by a Majority Decision over Holly Lawson

(AUG 2) On Saturday night at the  Commerce Casino, in Commerce
Deseree Jamison, 154, of Stone Mountain, Georgia, won a four-round majority decision over Holly Lawson, of Los Angeles, California, 154. Final judges scores were 38-38, 37-39, 36-40. This was a comeback for Lawson who last fought in 2012. Deseree is now 2-0-0 and Lawson is 5-3-0 (1KO).
