Mea Motu Dominates Thanchanok Phanan In Bout in New Zealand

(AUG 20) Four-division New Zealand champion Mea Motu dominated the Thailand champion Thanchanok Phanan for the PBCNZ International Featherweight title in Auckland New Zealand.

Isaac and Alina Peach put on another fantastic Pro-Am event at the ABA Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand with IBF 10th ranked boxer Mea Motu stopping her opponent in the fourth round of a scheduled eight round bout.

Originally the fight was scheduled as a super bantamweight fight, however, Thanchanok Phanan failed to make weight. So instead of fighting for a super bantamweight title, PBCNZ jumps up to featherweight. However, Mea Motu still weighed in at 55 kgs [121¼] in the super bantamweight division where Thanchanok Phanan weighed in at 56.5 kgs [124½]. This is the first time Mea Motu fought against someone shorter than her.

From the first bell rang, Mea Motu just went straight into the action throwing and landing combinations. Motu kept up with this throughout the fight with Thanchanok Phanan barely throwing back any shots of her own or even landing.

During the fourth round, Motu was landing a significant amount of headshots, referee Darcy Williams had no choice but to step in to stop the fight. The commentary did question if the fight was stopped early, however, ultimately the result was not going to change and if it didn't get stopped, Thanchanok Phanan was going to get hurt.

This is Motu's fifth boxing title, winning the PBCNZ International Featherweight title. Motu is hoping to fight soon against another International opponent. Motu team has expressed their frustration with the challenge of finding an opponent for Motu, especially with boxers in both Australia and New Zealand [in their opinion] ducking her (refusing to fight).

The best fight on the undercard of the event was an amateur boxing fight with Sonny Moroni knocking out his opponent in the first round.

In other Boxing results in New Zealand, Marcus Heywood defeated Shay Brock in their rematch by second-round stoppage with Heywood taking home the New Zealand National (NZPBC version) Middleweight title. After the fight, Marcus Heywood called out Andrei Mikhailovich for a rematch.
