(AUG 30) The International Boxing Association (AIBA) confirmed this week through its subsidiary World Series of Boxing (WSB) that there will now be 10 weights for Male boxers in the new W.S.B series which begins in Mexico City tonight and tomorrow and sees Cuba enter a team – the Cuba Domadores - fifty one years after Fidel Castro banned pro-boxing in Cuba in 1962.  Full Story

One on One Interview with Celina Salazar!

(AUG 27)  WBAN got an opportunity this week to interview professional boxer 24-year old Celina Salazar, of San Antonio, Texas.   Salazar has been boxing professionally since April of 2009, when she debuted against Lisa Lamb.  Salazar, with a 5-1-2 (1KO), has fought some of the top female boxers in the sport, that include Christina Ruiz, Melinda Cooper, and now former world champion Ana Julaton, who she just recently defeated on August 17th by a 10-round unanimous decision in Cancun, Mexico.   Full Story

Menzer Wins by a decision over Goda Dailydaite

(AUG 25)  Last night at the Warsteiner Hockeypark, Moenchengladbach, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany,  Ina Menzer of Germany won a 10-round unanimous decision over  Goda Dailydaite. Judges scores, 100-88, 100-88, and 97-92.  The two were fighting for a WBF, WIBA and WIBF Featherweight title.

Delfine Persoon Wins by a TKO over Galina Gumliiska

(AUG 24) Last night in Kursaal, Oostende, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, Delfine Persoon, 25-1-0 (11KO),won by a second round TKO over Galina Gumliiska, 9-25-1 (1KO), in a scheduled eight round bout.  As WBAN said it was a "Yawn" fight and a predictable outcome.  Gumliiska has now lost 15 fights out of the last 16 fights she has fought in.

(AUG 23) In a notice dated August 5, AIBA posted on their website that they would not pursue a quota-neutral proposal with the IOC to increase women's categories for the Rio Games. Hardy is a 31 year old single mother, who lives and fights out of Brooklyn, New York. (AUG 19) In what was a big night of boxing, the WBF crowned three new champions in Mexico on Saturday, August 17.  At the El Chamizal arena in Puerto Penasco, Sonora state, two local favorites won WBF titles as Linda “La Muneca” Soto and Javier “El Rebelde” Carrera took home the Women's Intercontinental Super Flyweight and North American Welterweight titles respectively.   Full Story

(AUG 18) In what is WBAN's Cool Story of the Week, we would like to tell boxing fans about world boxing champion Kaliesha "Wild Wild" West, has just recently been featured in the show "Capture."  Her teammate is Matt Rosado who is a jujitsu artist, and they are considered the "Fighters" on the show.  (AUG 17) Last night at the Chumash Casino, in Santa Ynez, California, Maria [Maggie] Suarez, raised her record to 6-0-1, when she won by a six round decision over Gloria "La Bombita" Salas [Salazar].  WBAN was told that Salas lost by a close decision. At the scales both boxers came in at 111.

Hyun-Mi Choi won over Raika Fujin

(AUG 17) On Thursday night, August 15, 2013, at Wolmi Park in Icheon, South Korea, Hyun-Mi Choi won over Raika Fujin by 10-round unanimous decision.  Hyun-Mi Choi became WBA super featherweight interim champion. (AUGUST 15) Yesterday I arrived in Costa Mesa, California to cover the weigh-in for the Rhonda Luna vs. Crystal Morales IFBA World Title fight that will take place TONIGHT at the Orange County Fair & Event Center, at the Hangar. Four Female Boxing Bouts on South Korea Card

(AUG 12) On August 15th, at the Wolmido, Icheon, South Korea, there are four scheduled female bouts.  There is also four male bouts on the card.  Fight #1:  Light Flyweight Dan-Bi Kim, 7-2-1 (2KO) of Anseong City, South Korea, will be facing Yokfah Sithrusin, 0-3-0, Thailand, in a 10-rounder. Believe it or not with a 0-3-0 record, being stopped in her last fight, Yokfah who was 0-1 had already managed to fight for an international super flyweight title, fighting in a 10 rounder on that bout. She then becomes 0-2, and in her third fight is stopped by TKO.  She is now fighting 10 rounds in this fight.  The BIG question is----is it for a title?

(AUG 11) A new International Club tournament, the Celtic Box Cup, was launched this week in the West Waterford town of Dungarvan, home of the Peter Crotty Ironman Gym and Dungarvan Sports Centre. The three day tournament, which was launched by 8 times former Irish Champion, Waterford’s Neil Gough, is scheduled to take place between September 27th and 29th. (AUG 10) Yesterday at the famous Mayweather Boxing Gym, located in Las Vegas, Nevada, WBC Featherweight World champion Jelena Mrdjenovich of Edmonton, Canada, was training at the gym.  The gym was packed as usual with many fighters from all over the World. Jelena ran into a follow Canadian Pro fighter 20-1,10 KOs Arash Usmanee who is training for his fight Aug 23 in Verona, New York.  Jelena said that she cannot wait until she is back in the ring.

(AUG 9) No surprises in the latest Women’s World Rankings lists , applicable from 01 August, just issued by the AIBA from their Lausanne, Switzerland HQ.
That Olympic Gold medallist, Claressa Shields is at no. 4 is not unexpected when one considers that she was unable to compete in this year’s American Confederation Championships, due to the age limit for AIBA International competitions becoming 19-40 instead of 18-35.  Full Story

(AUG 4)  Last night at the Whitehall Athletic Club, Whitehall, New York, as part of a co-main event, Melissa “Little Miss Tyson” St Vil, 142, Brooklyn, NY, won the International Women’s Boxing Federation (IWBF) welterweight title pounding out a ten-round unanimous decision over Sarah “The Knockout” Kuhn, 143, Albany, NY.  The familiar boxing phrase, “Speed kills” has always been a constant in the sport and held true last night as St. Vil, who has a track & field background employed supreme foot speed moving in and out of Kuhn’s range with a two-fisted attack.  Full Story
