Of all eligible National Federations, 145 were in attendance in person in Istanbul, while ten joined online. (MAY 1) Last night at the Madison Square Garden, in New York, women’s boxing made yet another “footprint” in the sport for now seeing that women’s boxing should have been in the “mainstream” Long ago!  In a history-first a female multi-world champion bout was featured in the main event.  The top champions, Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano did not disappoint!  Taylor, 134½, of Bray, Ireland,  ultimately won a controversial split decision over Serrano, 133½, of Brooklyn, New York,  with final scoring of 96-94 (Serrano); 97-93 (Taylor), and 96-94 (Taylor), with Taylor retaining her WBC, WBO, IBF, and WBA Lightweight titles.  Full Story

Mea Motu Calls out World Champion after win

(MAY 1) Mea Motu calls out the IBF Super Bantamweight champion Cherneka Johnson after the biggest win of her career so far against Baby Nansen.   Mea Motu took on the veteran Baby Nansen in the main event of the evening in what was described as a close but dirty fight. (APR 30) After two and a half years of being away from the boxing ring, Lani Daniels made her in-ring return against professional rugby player turned professional boxer, Sequita Hemingway. Lani Daniels despite being inactive, is still ranked 9th in the WBA took on Sequita Hemingway who is well known for her win over WBC and WBA ranked boxer Alrie Melesiea. (APRIL 27) On January 1, 2022, WBAN put out a list of fights that boxing fans and WBAN would like to see happen!  Then on January 27, it was announced by DAZN, that one of the biggest fights on the horizon would take place on April 30, 2022, at the Madison Square Garden, in New York in the mainliner for the first time in History, between Katie Taylor of Ireland vs. Amanda "The Real Deal" Serrano in a ten round bout where the two will be fighting for the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO Lightweight world titles. (APR 26) This last weekend, I had the opportunity to fly out to Charlotte, North Carolina to cover the Carolinas Boxing Hall of Fame.  I had a great time, and put together a report with photos of my time at the event.  The venue was at the Sheraton Charlotte Airport Hotel.  The event was a sold-out affair and it was wonderful covering these elite inductees.

(APRIL 25) After being postponed twice, the New Zealand national boxing championships have finally come, with Auckland Boxing Association (ABA) taking home the most medals and golds.  This is the second year in a row that the National Championships were postponed to the following year due to Covid; however, it was essential for these Championships to go on as athletes needed to be selected for the commonwealth games. The New Zealand team's nominations for the commonwealth games have an 11th of May deadline.  Full Story

(APR 17) Last night at the Manchester Arena, in Manchester, Alycia Baumgardner, now 12-1-0 (7KO), of Bingham Farm, Michigan won a ten-round unanimous decision over Edith Soledad Matthysse, 17-12-1 (1KO), of Argentina.  The two were fighting for the WBC and IBO Super Featherweight titles.  Scores were 100-90 on all cards.

(APR 16) President of the Rainbow Boxing New Zealand non-profit organization Benjamin Thomas Watt has confirmed that the organization's board has voted unanimously to close Rainbow Boxing NZ.  In October 2019, it was announced that the inaugural World Gay Boxing Championships would happen in Sydney in 2023. Benjamin Watt, a gay boxing judge, set out to create his own tournament to prepare New Zealand LGBTIQ+ boxers to take on the world at the tournament. “I set out to create Rainbow Gloves so that we would prepare LGBT boxers to have their first fight and help qualify boxers for the tournament itself.”  Full Story

(MAR 30) The Ukrainian team has won medals at this year’s EUBC U22 European Boxing Championship in Croatia thanks to the support of European boxing stakeholders.  The men’s Ukrainian boxing team won six medals in total including two bronze medals, three silver medals along with Yuriy Zakharieiev winning gold in the men’s light middleweight category. Layla "Amazing" McCarter Wins by decision in Mexico

(MAR  27) On Friday night in Xochitepect, Morelos, in Mexico, Layla “Amazing” McCarter won a ten-round unanimous decision over Brazilian Halanna dos Santos. Final judges scores were 100-92, 100-90, and 98-92. McCarter is now 46-13-5 (11KO). There was another female bout on the card and we will report more when we get the information on that bout.

The Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) reiterated today the IOC’s strong condemnation of the breach of the Olympic Truce by the Russian government and the government of Belarus through its support in this. The respective UN resolution was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 2 December 2021 by consensus of all 193 UN Member States. World boxing champion meets with the president of Brazil

(NOV 7)  Rosilete dos Santos met with the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, last Friday (November 5th), in Castro (Brazil). The president came to Castro at the invitation of Congresswoman Aline Sleutjes.  Born in Castro and now a resident of São José dos Pinhais, also in Brazil, Rosilete became in 2008 the first woman born in Brazil to win a world boxing title, winning the World Boxing Commission belt. In 2011, she won the WIBA (Women's International Boxing Association) world title, the largest women's boxing organization on the planet. (NOV 5)  This last weekend on October 30-31, the Beautiful Brawlers 10th Anniversary Amateur boxing event took place in Pacifica, California, and it was two full days of action-packed fighting from these young elite athletics. (AUGUST 17) On August 29th, at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, Cleveland, Ohio, Amanda Serrano of Brooklyn, New York,  will be fighting a ten-round bout against Yamileth Mercado of  of Chihuahua, Mexico. (AUGUST 11) On August 13th at the Montekristo Estates, Hal Luqa, Malta, “Ice Queen” Lucy Wildheart is set to fight for the WBC International Featherweight title. She will be fighting Enerolisa de Leon. The two will be fighting a 10 rounder. In a second female bout on the card, featherweight Cathy McAleer will be facing Eva Hrkotova in a six round bout.  Eva has yet to win a pro fight, coming into the bout with a 0-6 record. McAleer is 4-1-0.
 

Chevelle Hallback Wins by a decision over Logan Holler

(AUGUST 9) On Saturday night at the Whitesands Events Center, Plant City, Chevelle "Fists of Steel" Hallback, 148 1/4, of Plant City, Florida, won an eight-round unanimous decision over Logan Holler,  152.5, of Columbia, South Carolina. Holler has experienced her first professional fight, with the veteran and one of the top female boxers in the sport.

Seniesa Estrada Named WBAN's August 2021 Fighter of the Month!

(AUGUST 1) A Special congratulations to Seniesa Estrada who has been named our WBAN August 2021 Fighter of the month. Just recently,  Seniesa Estrada (21-0, 8 KOs) of East Los Angeles, California captured the WBO Light Flyweight World Title by scoring a 10-round unanimous decision victory against Japanese warrior Tenkai Tsunami (28-13-1, 16 KOs).  The fight with Tsunami was a barnburner, and in 2021, Estrada also had another tough bout winning by a ten-round unanimous decision against Anabel Ortiz in March of 2021.

Diane Beazley is a 2009 New Zealand National Amateur Champion, made her professional boxing debut in 2019. (JULY 10) A massive upset has happened last night in the small town of Putāruru, New Zealand where world-ranked boxer Alrie Meleisea lost against professional rugby player Sequita Hemingway on her debut.  Alrie Meleisea who now has the record of 5 wins 1 lose and 1 draw is ranked 3rd in the WBA and 8th in the WBC.
