Carla Merino Wins Her Pro debut in Argentina against Juliana Basualdo

 (JULY 22)  On Friday night,  July 20, 2019, at the Complejo Deportivo Teniente Origone, Justiniano Posse, Cordoba, Argentina, super flyweight Carla Ayelen Merino, 115, making her pro debut, from Cordoba, won a four-round unanimous decision over Juliana Basualdo, 113¾, of Cordoba. Final judges scores were 39-36, 39.5-35, and 39.5 - 35. Basualdo is now 1-1-0 (0KO), and Merino is 1-0-0.

(JULY 15) On July 12th, at the Korakuen Hall, in Tokyo, Japan, Naoko Fujioka, 112, and Tenkai Tsunami, 111¾, both out of Tokyo, had a ten round draw. Fujioka was defending her WBA Flyweight title. The final judges scores were 95-95, 94-96, and 96-95. Fujioka is now 18-2-1 (7KO), and Tsunami is 26-12-1 (15KO).  Full Story

(JULY 7) Austria-based German Nicole Wesner retained the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Womens World Lightweight title for the fifth time on Saturday night, July 6, in the main event of a show at Gym 23 in her adopted home-town of Vienna.  Dedicating the fight to recently departed administrators Olaf Schroeder (WBF) and Jurgen Lutz (WIBF), Wesner scored a unanimous decision over Pasa Malagic from Bosnia & Herzegovina, controlling the action most of the way.  Full Story

(JULY 6) Super lightweight Kandi "Krush" Wyatt,  was just eight years old when she first "stumbled" upon boxing.  Wyatt was enrolled in the gymnastics club, in Rocky Mountain House, that shared its location with the Rocky Titans Boxing Club, and she found herself more interested in the kids across the floor punching bags, skipping and sparring in the ring.  Read more on this boxer!

Alicia Holzken won by decision for the GBU and WIBF Flyweight titles

Twelve nations share 15 gold medals in the European Games Finals in Minsk

(JULY 1) The 2nd European Games ended in Minsk, Belarus on Sunday and both GB Boxing and Team Ireland had many medals to display when they arrived back on home soil. Altogether 317 boxers including 59 women attended in the European Games from a record number of 44 nations in Minsk, Belarus.  Full Story
