(JAN 31)  NEW YORK, NY-- DiBella Entertainment has signed women’s WBA Super Welterweight World Champion Hanna “La Amazona Black” Gabriels (19-2-1, 11 KOs), of Alajuela, Costa Rica, to an exclusive promotional contract.  Gabriels successfully defended her WBA world title for the third time this past Saturday, January 26, with a dominant 10-round unanimous decision versus Sarah Dwyer in Managua, Nicaragua.   Full Story

(JAN 27) On March 30, 2019, New Zealand will host their fourth major world title fight in Auckland, New Zealand. Geovana Peres will be taking on Lani Daniels for the vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Women’s World Light Heavyweight title. Golden Girl Box Cup February 1-3, Boras Sweden

(JAN 23) One of Europe’s (indeed the World’s) leading ‘all female’ Box Cups take place yet again this year in Boras, Sweden when around 300 boxers from many different countries are expected to take part.  There will be a strong Irish representation as always though many of the top names will be missing as the IABA National Elite Championships will be taking place days later at the National Stadium in Dublin. Two Female Bouts Featured on Denmark Card

 (JAN 20) Last night at the Struer Arena, in Struer, Denmark, super bantamweight Dina Thorslund, 121.5, fighting in her hometown of Struer, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Alesia Graf, 122, of Stuttgart, Germany. The two were fighting for the WBO Super Bantamweight title.  In a second female bout, flyweight Alicia Holzken, 112.5, won a four-round una. decision over Ivanka Ivanova,  112¼.

(JAN 20)  This week WBAN had an opportunity to catch up with Logan Holler, of Columbia, South Carolina, and spoke with her about her upcoming fight that will take place on February 23rd, on a Christy Martin Promotions card.  Logan, before you decided to box-----what other sports were you involved in?  Logan:  I grew up playing soccer, volleyball, and equestrian. Equestrian was my main sport and I earned a Division 1 scholarship to the University of South Carolina’s Equestrian team where we won the SEC Championship my senior year. Full Story

(JAN 19) Geovana Peres and Lani Daniels have started their respected training camps ahead of their World Title fight against each other on March 30th, in Auckland New Zealand.  With 10 weeks to go till the event, all hands are on deck getting the logistics of the event done. Bruce Glozier of Glozier Boxing is expected to make an announcement any week now about Ticketing details, venue, TV and undercard. While Glozier is keeping busy event managing, Geovana Peres and Lani Daniels are deep into their training camps. Full Story

Final Tribute to Police Officer Natalie Corona; and former amateur boxer

(JAN 18)  Today the Memorial Service was held in Davis, California, for slain rookie officer Natalie Corona, just 22 years old when she was killed on duty.  According to news sources Officer Corona was ambushed Thursday night while responding to a three-vehicle crash, Davis Police Chief Darren Pytel said.  Full Story

(JAN 15) On Saturday, January 12, 2019, at the Deportivo Trabajadores del Metro, Iztacalco, Distrito Federal, Mexico City, Mexico, and promoted by Zanfer Promotions, televised on Box Azteca 7, featured two female bouts on the card.  In a scheduled 10-round bout, Zulina "La Loba" Munoz, 115, now 49-2-2 (29KO), of Mexico City, won by a fifth round RTD over Arely "La Gemela Diestra"  Valente, 113, of Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.  Full Story

Two Female Bouts Featured on Mexico Card

 (JAN 12) Tonight at the Deportivo Trabajadores del Metro, Iztacalco, Distrito Federal, Mexico, super flyweights Zulina Munoz will face Arely Valente in a ten round bout; and in a second female bout, light flyweight Silvia Torres will fight Norleidys Graterol in another ten-round bout.   According to Boxrec there are two male bouts on the card, Mauricio Lara vs. Jose Calyecac; and Oscar Plata vs. Omar Periban.

Argentina:  Micaela Lujan to fight Virginia Carcamo

 (JAN 12) Tonight at the Estadio Municipal, Perez, in Santa Fe, Argentina, Micaela Lujan is set to fight Virginia Carcamo in a six-round bout in the bantamweight division.  This will be a return to the ring for Lujan, after she last fought in November of 2017, when she lost by a split decision with Iris Miramontes.  Carcamo last fought in August of 2018, where she lost to Anahi Lopez in a eight rounder.

Katie Taylor named WBAN's January 2019 Fighter of the Month

(JAN 1, 2019) Katie Taylor has been named our WBAN's January 2019 Fighter of the month. We would like to congratulate Taylor with this honor.  Katie Taylor had a fantastic fight recently against Ewa Wahlstrom, winning the bout with a shutout unanimous decision. Taylor was defending her IBF and WBA Lightweight world titles for the third time, winning all rounds with a 100-90 on all judges cards.
