(DEC 30) WBAN just published our first history-first coverage of the historic U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Women’s Boxing had officially kicked off with the tournament at the Northern Quest resort. All 24 participants as well as USA Boxing officials were on hand for the official event draw, which would determine each of the athletes road to gold in Spokane, Washington....Full Story

(DEC 30, 2020) WBAN would like to take this time to congratulate Lourdes 'La Pequena Lulú' Juárez, of Mexico City, Mexico, now 31-2-0 (4KO),  who has been chosen as our WBAN January 2021 Fighter of the Month.  Lourdes began her professional boxing career in October 2013, and after seven years in the sport fighting professionally. (DEC 29) Five new Committees were established under the adopted AIBA Constitution during the virtual Board of Directors meeting. In addition to four Committees standing in the Constitution - Disciplinary Committee, Ethics Committee, Athletes Committee and the Audit Committee - the directors created five new committees. These are:  Coaches Committee - which will solve the issues of training of qualified coaching staff and develop methods of athlete’s preparation...Full Story

Argentina:  Two Female Bouts Featured on Card

(DEC 26) This week, on Dec. 19th, in Buenos Aires, Debora Anahi Lopez, 111, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Ayelen Granadino, 108¾. The two were fighting for the WBO Flyweight title. In a second female bout, Yamila Belen Abellaneda, 133.5, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Estefania Alaniz, 131.5. The two were fighting for the Argentina (FAB) Lightweight title. More

Umar Kremlev Wins AIBA Presidency, Calls for Urgent Reforms in Boxing

(DEC 12) Lausanne, Switzerland – Umar Kremlev is the new president of the International Boxing Association (AIBA), winning the election on Saturday with 57.33 per cent of the vote. Gabriella Mezei Wins by Points over Cathy McAleer

(DEC 12) Last night at the Sheffield Arena Car Park, Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK, Gabriella Mezei, 124¼, of Romania, now 11-24-5 (3KO), won by points in a four-round bout over Cathy McAleer, 123¾, of Northern Ireland, UK.  McAleer is now 4-1-0 (1KO). According to Boxrec, McAleer received a cut on the forehead. Final score for the bout was 37-39.  Full Results

History First: Three Boxing Sisters fight on the same card in Argentina

(DEC 9) In one of the most unique stories of 2020, came last weekend when we had "All in the Family" three boxing sisters on the same card.  It happened on Friday, December 4th, at the Asociacion Bomberos Voluntarios de Zavalla, Zavalla, in Santa Fe, Argentina, that featured three boxing sisters on the same boxing card.  What is surprising is this news barely made it on the net about this oddity of three sisters on the same card.  Full Story

Former World Boxing Champion Viviane Obenauf was arrested for allegedly Murdering her Husband

(DEC 6) Yesterday morning, I was notified that there was a news story online on the Dailymail website that reported female professional boxer and former world champion Viviane Obenauf, 34 years old, of Switzerland had been taken into custody for the charge of murdering her 61-year-old husband.  Viviane and her husband had "tied the knot"  in January 2020 this year.  According to the online media, her newly-married husband had died of massive injuries from a sustained violent assault.  Full Story

(DEC 4) Tonight at the Asociacion Bomberos Voluntarios de Zavalla, in Santa Fe, there are three female bouts on the card.  Daniela Bermudez vs. Cintia Castillo, 10 rounds, for vacant IBF Su bantam title; Gabriela Alaniz vs. Roxana Bermudez, eight rounds; and Evelyn Bermudez vs. Aixa Adema, six rounds.  Three sisters on same card!
