Boxing: St Brigid's Edenderry Sparring Camp a resounding success

(AUG 30) More than 120 boxers from countries including India, Canada, Taiwan, France, England (inc Isle of Man) Scotland, Norway, and of course Ireland, have ended a highly successful International Sparring Camp at the St Brigid’s club in Edenderry. The camp was officially from 24-29th August but many of the boxers were already in situ on 22nd August preparing for what has been described as the “World’s largest” sparring camp for female boxers.  Full Story

Final Tribute to 26-Year Old , Angelique Ducehmin --- A Sad Day in Women's Boxing

(AUG 30) WBAN would like to pay a special Tribute to France's World Champion Angelique Ducehmin, just 26 years old when passed away yesterday.  Ducehmin a professional female boxer with a undefeated boxing record of 14-0 (3KO), winning the WBF Featherweight World title on May 12, 2017 when she defeated Ericka Rousseau by a ten-round unanimous decision.   Full Story

Mandatory Challenger been appoint for New Zealand title

(AUG 19) It has just been decided that New Zealand Heavyweight female boxer Sarah Long, has been appointed as the mandatory challenger for the New Zealand National (NZPBA Version) Heavyweight title.  Sarah Long (Boxing 2-2-0, Kickboxing 5-4 0) debut as a heavyweight boxer in mid 2016. The beginning of her boxing career didn’t start off well with losses against Nailini Helu and Cheyenne Whaanga. However everything changed when she won her first bout last year against Tash Pakai and current NZNBF champion Geovana Peres earlier this year. Since winning her two boxing bouts, she has peaked at 6th in the world on Boxrec April this year.  Full Story

(AUG 18)  Katie Taylor is set to have a World lightweight title fight earlier than expected according to Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn.  So where, when and why the proposed earlier fight?  It now seems certain that GB’s Anthony Joshua – also a Matchroom fighter – will defend his own World heavyweight crown in the coming months. (AUG 17) Lee Baxter Promotions and FITE are proud to announce that fight fans worldwide will be able to tune in to see the WBA-NABA welterweight title fight between Samuel Vargas and Ali Funeka.  “This is an international event, so it’s important that it’s not just the fans in Toronto who get to see it, but also Ali Funeka’s fans in South Africa, or Christian M’Billi’s fans in France,” said Baxter. “There’s a reason FITE is becoming the place to go for combat sports. Geovana Peres goes for second Title

(AUG 16) Brazilian Born New Zealander Geovana Peres (2 - 1 - 0), will be going for her second New Zealand title on October 13th at ABA Stadium in Auckland against Trish Vaka.  Peres has accomplished so much in her career so far, including becoming the first ever person from the LGBT+ community to win a New Zealand professional title, in any gender. She has won an amateur New Zealand Golden gloves title, debut in March 2017 and won her Pro title that same year. Full Story

Italy head medals table at EUBC Championships in Cascia

(AUG 13) The 2017 EUBC European Union championships have ended in Cascia, Italy with the host nation taking most medals.  The event saw some 87 athletes from 19 countries take part : Bulgaria, Czech Republic, England, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, Wales, Holland and Croatia.  Full Story

(AUG 10)  As we revealed earlier this week, Edenderry in County Offaly, Ireland will host an International Female Boxing sparring camp 22nd /29th August and we can now bring the sensational news that Team India’s 22 woman squad will include the famous 5 time World champion Mary Kom, the only woman apart from our own Katie Taylor to have won a women’s World title at five editions of the AIBA World Championships. (AUG 5) This week I had a great opportunity to attend the National Night Out, that took place on August 1st in Longview, Washington. In particular I attending the event to meet up with boxing coach and who started the Highlands Neighborhood Association (HNA) Lions Den Boxing gym, Juan Rodriguez, who invited WBAN to be there to check out the new boxing gym that is being developed for the community.  Full Story
