(APR 27)  It is with deep sadness to learn about male boxer Cristian "‘El Botija"  Oviedo who at the age of 21 years old committed suicide on April 23, 2020.  Oviedo was born on  June 12, 1998, in San Basilio, Córdoba, Argentina. Oviedo was a well-respected amateur boxer who was a heavyweight amateur youth champion, who was ranked #4 in the Amateur..Full Story

(APR 23) 5' 4" Vivian "El Problema" Velazquez-Maldonado born on September 22, 1994 in Cidra, Puerto Rico, has fought as an amateur and then turned pro in 2019.  She has accumulating 40 fights  as an amateur before turning pro.  She first began boxing at the age of 17 years old, and at that time joined a gym in Cidra, Puerto Rico, under the tutelage of Team sniper, who helped build the foundation of her boxing skills by successfully leading her career as an amateur boxer, therefore, she won multiple tournaments and medals representing her beautiful island, Puerto Rico.  Full Story

IABA  expands more on what Olympic boxing places are still available

(APR 8)  Three of Japan’s automatic host places for Tokyo 2021 have been confirmed.  The host nation selected the men’s 52kg, 63kg and 75kg weights, with another three host places – two for women and one for males – to be 100% confirmed.  The window of opportunity for the final World qualifier will now contract by one place in each of the fly, light-welter and middle classes from 5 to 4.  Full Story

Alicia Ashley Stranded in Florida in a Self-Imposed Quarantine

 (APR 6)  According to the Jamaica "The Gleaner" website, Alicia "Slick" Ashley who works as a boxing coach in Shanghai, China, took a three-week vacation to Florida, and has now been able to return to her job at this time. She said that she was stuck in the USA, at this time due to the Coronavirus. Jamaician-Born Ashley has been in Shanghai since 2018, but is from Brooklyn, New York.
