So why did WBAN create an independent belt, as the Ring Magazine belt that is for men's boxing?

Never before have women boxers received an independent World Title belt, for being the “Best of the Best”, and having an opportunity to fight for an elite independent belt.  Ring Magazine AT THE TIME only did it for male boxers-so WBAN felt it was time that we did the same thing for women boxers in the sport.  (Ring now does that for female boxers, but
WBAN was the history-first to offer this to female boxers)

The Women Boxing Archive Network (WBAN) championship belts,  are designed to recognize the "best of the best" of the sport's championship title holders.
We do not perform as a sanctioning body and no sanctioning fees are paid to us for the WBAN Independent World Title belt. When there is a world title fight that is considered the top of the line bout,  and the promoter is interested in adding this prestigious  independent WBAN belt to that fight---WBAN presents the matchup to the Selection board members.  The board consists of three independent members, and the majority of the vote of these three members will be the final word on approving or disapproving the match. The WBAN belt represents a gold standard for the sport of women's boxing.

What qualifies a female boxer for the WBAN Belt?

Only the top-rated women boxers can fight for the belt that is approved by WBAN’s independent board who by a majority rule, approves the fight. There can be no last minute replacement opponent.  If the belt had already been made, it will go back to the WBAN Archive for historical purposes.  This belt cannot be bought to be featured on a card---we take NO sanctioning fees and it is only based on top-rated female boxers in the Ring ratings and/or at the discretion of the WBAN Board.

Check out more of the elite female boxers who have fought for the WBAN P4P World Championship Belt along with many of the federation belts in the sport.

A Picture Worth a Thousand Words: Honoring Female Boxing Trailblazers
by Sue TL Fox

LAS VEGAS - NV (April 29, 2025) A picture worth a thousand words....this is one of many things that keeps me covering the sport in WBAN and doing the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame.

Pioneer Trailblazers female boxers not having opportunities as fighters as we see our modern female boxers receive for opportunities.

At our April 4-5, 2025 International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame event, we have presented trailblazer female boxers who fought from 2000 or earlier, with a WBAN Mini belt. Many of the earlier female boxers in the sport had little or no opportunity to fight for a title or belt.

At Women's Boxing Archive Network (WBAN) and through events like the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHF), we are dedicated to shedding light on these "never forgotten" pioneers. Their journeys reflect tenacity, resilience, and the fight for recognition in a sport that has often overlooked them.

Among the History-first recipients, we celebrated Dar Buckskin, Pat Pineda, and Jamie Johnson—our three trailblazers recognized in 2023.

The IWBHF Event in 2025 proved to be a historic moment for women's boxing. During this gathering, five trailblazers were honored with the WBAN Mini Belt: Margaret McGregor, Yvonne Barkley, Jill Matthews, Nora Daigle, and Tracy Byrd. These women represent the grit and determination of a generation of fighters who persevered despite limited exposure and scant opportunities to showcase their talent.  Full Story

October 11, 2023

(OCT 11, 2023)  On October 6, 2023,at the International Women's Boxing Hall of Fame event, at the Orleans Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada, at our pre-celebration day of the "Night of the Stars" event, WBAN presented three mini-WBAN Belts with a case to three prominent pioneer female boxers for the first time in the history of WBAN.

To the surprise of these three pioneers in the sport, Pat Pineda, Dar Buckskin, and Jamie Johnson, they were certainly taken off guard when I called them up the the podium area  with first stating the following the audience in the ballroom.

Simply stated, "Pioneers will NEVER be forgotten" and that I did not care if a fighter  had one fight or 50 fights, or if they lost every fight, and/or won every fight----that EVERY female boxer who has stepped in the ring in this sport has played a major part in where the sport is today."
