(JULY 23) This past week featured several exciting boxing matches and outcomes, along with other updates on women's boxing from around the world, that may not be "as" exciting that took place.

Outside of the professional circuit, women's boxing continues to gain momentum and recognition.  Their dedication to the sport is truly inspiring.

On Sunday night, at the Club La Pradera, Carmen de Apicala, in Colombia, there were two female fights with  local female boxers on this card, in one bout, Maria Gonzalez, 133 1/4, of Bogota, Colombia, won by a second round KO over Gladis Munevar, 132 3/4, also out of Bogota.  In a second female bout, Flor Rodriguez, 122, of Colombia, won by a fourth round KO over Naudith Hernandez, 123 1/2.

In Italy, at the Bottega di Vallefoglia, Nadia Flalhi of San Benedetto del Tronto, Marche, Italy won a ten-round split decision over Mahjouba Oubti, of Lazio, Italy.  The two were fighting for the vacant WBC Mediterranean Super Light Title.  Final judges scores were 94-96, 96-94, and 95-96.

On Saturday, July 20th, at the Estadio F.A.B., in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a newcomer Lucia Elena Garcia Ovejero, 121 3/4, from Mendoza, Argentina, made a successful pro debut when she won her first professional fight by a four-round majority decision over her opponent Veronica Isabel Nunez, 125 1/4, from Concordia, Entre Rios, Argentina. The final judges scores were 39-37, 36-40, and 38-38.  Nunez is now 0-2-0.

The same night at the Amalie Arena, in Tampa, Florida, was a higher profile card on a Jake Paul card, with two female bouts featured this night. In one bout, Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano defeated Stevie Morgan by a second round TKO in a scheduled ten-round bout. The bout was part of the “Fear No Man” Boxing event headlined by Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry and was streamed on DAZN PPV.  Serrano dominated the match and quickly handed Morgan her second professional loss. Despite Morgan's size advantage, Serrano's experience proved to be the deciding factor.  In the second female bout, in an eight-rounder, Shadasia Green won an eight-round unanimous decision over Natasha Spence.  For full details, go here, there are photos and more.   WBAN Story  Press Conference

In San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, two pro debuters on the undercard at this event - Keidali Franco Medrano, of the Domincan Republic, weighing in at 119, won a four-rounder by unanimous decision over Marjone Guzman Vizcaino, 122 lb., also from the Dominican Republic.  Final judges scores were 36-40 on all cards.

At the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Ayma, in San Juan de Tibas, in a not-so challenging fight, Yokasta Valle, 105, of San Jose, Costa Rica won by 1:12 TKO in the second round over Ramandeep Kaur, 104 1/2, from Chandigarh, India.  The bout was scheduled for 10 rounds, in a non-title fight.

In Indija, at the  Ustanova sportskog centra,  Snezana Siljkovic, 114 3/4, won a four-round unanimous decision over pro debuter Anastasija Isakovic, 119.  Final judges scores were 40-36, 39-37, and 39-37.  In this matchup, this bout made the WBAN Crazy Matchmaking segment.  To put a boxer that has 26 fights against a pro debuter is crazy.   Full database on Crazy Matchmaking!

This same night on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Resorts World Arena, in Birmingham, Chantelle Cameron, 139.4, of Northhampton, UK,  emerged victorious, securing the Interim WBC Super Lightweight World Title with a ten-round majority decision over Elhem Mekhaled, 138.4, of Paris, France. The final judges scores were 95-95, 99-92, and 98-92, which was a bit odd.  Cameron moved her record to 19-1-0 (8KO's) and Mekhaled is now 17-3-0 (3KO). This win for Cameron does give an "Internet" buzz about a potential trilogy fight against Katie Taylor.  Full Story

Moving right along, on July 18, 2024 - ABA Stadium, in Auckland, New Zealand, Maribel Ramirez, of Mexico City, Mexico, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Michelle Preston, of Auckland.  The final judges scores were 97-93, 97-93, and 98-92.  This was a rematch for these two when on March 18, 2023, Ramirez defeated Preston by a ten-round unanimous decision.  This bout led to an article we published on Preston announcing her retirement.  Full Story

And lastly, on July 17, 2024, at the Round a Round Fitness Club, Santa Marta, Colombia, Lira Huyke, 134, of Colombia,  won by a third round KO over Natalia Jimenez, 134, of Santa Maria, Colombia. The bout was scheduled for six rounds in the lightweight division.  In a second female bout Karol Hibbert, 130, of Panama City, Panama,  won a four-round unanimous decision over Jesica Racedo, 129, of Barranquilla, Colombia.

As more results come in, we will be updating this article.  We had some good solid matchups, but in some of the fights, they did not leave much to one's imagination who would win the fight.
