Salita Promotions Signs Elite Russian Female Elena Gradinar to Co-Promotional Contract

(SEPT 30)  The female fighting stable of promoter Dmitriy Salita has grown again, as Salita proudly announces the signing of Russian featherweight Elena Gradinar to a co-promotional contract (along with Russian-based Alexander Nevskiy Promotion Group).  The undefeated 27-year-old Gradinar (6-0, 1 KO) as a professional boxer, went 73-8 as an amateur, winning numerous national and international amateur tournaments.  Full Story

(SEPT 17)   Last night at the Twin River Event Center, in Lincoln, Rhode Island, I was fortunate enough to have been able to attend the fights at that event.  I say this because I witnessed yet another great women's boxing match up.  Marcia Agripino (1-0-1) of Groton, Connecticut, and Federica Bianco (2-1) of New York fought each other this night in a non-stop action bout.   Full Story

(SEPT 6) It was during a Bay Area heat wave that the weigh ins neared for Beautiful Brawlers VII. I walked up the alleyway to the Babyface Boxing gym. I walked through a sea of boxing coaches and families. As I neared the door there was a long line of boxers in fight team outfits, sweats and team t shirts. I walked in where the officials were weighing in the fighters and there was a line of girls, all from out of town weighing in. Ten year old Miliyah Amezquita walked ion with space buns on her head and a wonder woman outfit.   Full Story

USA Boxing Head Coach Billy Walsh is AIBA 2017 Coach of the Year

(SEPT 3)  Team USA Boxing ended the 2017 AIBA World championships at the Sporthalle in Hamburg with one Gold and two Silver medals plus the prestigious AIBA 2017 Coach of the Year award which went to Head Coach Billy Walsh.  Wexford-man Walsh of course is also Head Coach of the women’s team which saw Claressa Shields take Gold in Rio in 2016 and that team too is now busy preparing for major International championships in 2018 as well as for the next USA Boxing domestic championships.  Full Story

(SEPT 2) AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu met with the National Federations gathered in Hamburg for the 2017 AIBA World Championships on Saturday morning to reflect on the success of the tournament and the quality of the boxing, and to look ahead through the Olympic Cycle to Tokyo 2020. Also present at the meeting was the IOC Sports Director Mr Kit McConnell, who outlined the key changes planned for Tokyo, including the addition of two new weight categories for the Women’s competition, taking the total up to five.  Full Story
