AIBA: Boxing Rule Changes
By Bernard O'Neill
February 21, 2008

(FEB 21) World amateur boxing chiefs, AIBA have endorsed a number of rule changes following the completion of their Executive Committee meeting in Busan, Korea on Monday.

The new changes, which will be implemented after the Olympics, will see the duration of men's senior bouts increase by one minute with the introduction of three, three minute rounds as opposed to the present format of four two minute rounds.

The duration of women's senior bouts has also been increased from three two minute rounds to four two minute rounds, an increase of two minutes per bout.

Youths/Boys (17-18 years of age) bouts will be changed to four rounds of two minutes, with Youth/Girl (17-18 years of age) bouts lasting three two minute rounds as well as Junior/Boy bouts.

Junior/Girl (15-16 years of age) bouts will last three one and a half minute rounds.
