FEBRUARY 2015

February 28, 2015 -  Centro De Convenciones in Baja California, Mexico
Melissa "Mighty" McMorrow, 112, now 10-5-3 (1KO), of San Francisco, California, won by a ten-round split decision over the previous undefeated boxer Kenia Enriquez, 13-1-0 (6KO), 109½, of Tijuana, Mexico. McMorrow won the WBO Flyweight world title. Final judges scores were 97-93 and 98-92 for McMorrow, and 96-94 for Enriquez.  McMorrow, again braved it to go into Mexico to again fight for yet another world title. She had previously won the WBO Flyweight title in 2012 when she first defeated Susi Kentikian, and then successfully defended the title that same year when she fought Yahaira Martinez and then, in 2013 against successfully defending her title against Nadia Raoui. All of these WBO title fights took place out of venue for McMorrow, fighting twice in Germany, and once in Florida.  According to ringside observers, McMorrow pressed the action from the opening round, keeping the action in close and putting continual pressure on Enriquez.
In a second bout on the card, WBC-WBA super bantamweight champion, Jackie Nava, 122, of Tijuana, Mexico, scored a sixth round TKO (1:22) over Mayra Gomez, 122, of Neuquen, Argentina. Nava was defending her WBC/WBA titles in this ten rounder...Full Story  Video:  nava

Anne Sophie Mathis retained the WBF World Super Welterweight title by fighting her opponent, Oxandia Castillo, to a 10-round split draw.  In the WBF Press Release they stated the following:  "In a very exiting and fast-paced fight in front of a packed arena, the reigning champion had problems with the skilled and determined 20-year-old Dominican challenger from the start, and looked hurt by hard shots from Castillo several times in the first three rounds.  But Mathis (37), a three weight world champion, seemed to find her rhythm better from round four on, and started to connect regularly with well-placed body punches, and also found more success in landing her jab and straight right hand.  After a ten round war with skilled boxing and plenty of power-punching, judge Christophe Hembert from France scored the fight dead even at 95-95, but judge Sergio Sotelo (Mexico) had it 96-94 for Mathis, while judge Alexander Plumanns (Germany) saw it as 96-94 for Castillo.  Mathis, making her second title-defense, is now 27-3-1 (23) in a career that started in 1995, while Castillo, a pro for only three years, travels home to Santo Domingo at 13-2-3 (10). Due to the closeness, quality and excitement of the fight, a rematch seems almost inevitable."  In a prelim six round featherweight bout: Gaelle Amand 12(1)-0 won a unanimous decision over last minute opponent Bojana Libiszewska 0-4.
