January 31, 2013 - Las Pulgas, in Tijuana, Mexico
In the semi-main, Jolene Blackshear, San Diego, CA, won a six round unanimous decision over Linda Soto, from Chihuahua, Mexico The two were fighting in the junior flyweight division.  No other details at this time. Notes on Jolene Blackshear by WBAN's Correspondent:  First pro bout in June 1996. Her second bout was against legend Yvonne Trevino and suffered her only stoppage (due to cuts). Only two other losses were decisions in title fights (at flyweight against Margaret Sideroff and at minimumweight against Dan Bi Kim). After each of these two losses, she took long layoffs (2000-2009) 2009-2012. Some of her most memorable wins were against Anissa Zamaron, Delia Gonzales, and Melissa McMorrow. I first saw her fight on network TV in June of 1998 (from Atlantic City) against British fighter Sara Hall. Her current comeback started last fall, and she obviously believes she has enough skill to compete in at least one more title fight.

I hate to see a bout stopped for a cut, particularly on a fighter who is not otherwise hurt, and particularly in a championship fight and in the tenth round; but clearly, the cut needed immediate medical attention as the blood would have blinded Portillo and made her defenseless."
