Melody Vargas began boxing at the tender age of 7. It was actually a birthday gift from her parents since she wanted to join a boxing gym and kept bugging them about it. Amateur Record: 55 Bouts: 49W - 6 L.[All published photos on bio sent to WBAN with permission to post]

Her parents thought she would grow out of it and figured it was just a phase she was going through---until they finally realized how persistent she was with them about boxing.

Melody comes from a boxing family background. Her mother’s great Uncles' were both amateur and professional fighters---Adolfo and Edwin Viruet. Both of them were New York City Golden Gloves Champions. Both of them being elite athletics, had both fought for world titles but both came up short.

Melody has watched boxing for most of her life and found the skill set and ring intelligence of male boxers fascinating.  It was not  until she was 17, that she started watching more female bouts.

Melody’s favorite boxer is Felix Tito Trinidad. Her Trainer is Doel Montes (her father) and her assistant coach is Willie Figueroa.

One of Melody’s hobbies, which she truly enjoys doing is actually drawings/sketches; specifically designing wedding dresses. But her preferred thing to do and one she holds very dear to her heart is, sharing arts & crafts moments with her daughter.

Melody Vargas’ endeavor is to have all of her life goals met. She wants to be a positive role model to her daughter and other young girls.

One of  a major part of her ‘life endeavor’ is to bring awareness towards Crohn's Disease, Cervical Cancer and Heart Disease and in a big way. This is a mission she has specifically decided to incorporate into her life now and will pursue after boxing.

Melody says, “This really hits home for me and I want to be able to share and let others know what families dealing with these illnesses go through and be   able to be an instrument in being able to establish a way to help people dealing with these circumstances.”

Melody Vargas says that the most influential person in her life is her mother who has always been there. And who has had a career in administration in Healthcare while doing everything possible to ensure Melody succeeded.

Here are  Melody Vargas’ major tournament championships:
