Yesica Marcos

Junior featherweight Yésica Patricia Marcos was born on March 5, 1988 in San Martin, Mendoza, Argentina.  She was a three-time Golden Gloves champion as an amateur.

In August 2007 at Polideportivo San Pedro in San Martin, Argentina, Yésica won the Argentinean 57-kg National Championship, beating Valerio Castillo by a 5-0 score.

Yésica made her pro debut weighing in at 116 lbs on September 5, 2008 at Polideportivo San Pedro in San Martin, Argentina, and won a clear four-round unanimous (40-37,40-37,40-36) decision over Cristina Pacheco (115¾ lbs) of Cordoba, Argentina who fell to 3-2-1 (1 KO).

On October 3, 2008 at Club Atletico San Martín in San Martin, Yésica (124 lbs) won a four-round unanimous decision over Sonia Edith Paladino (124½ lbs) of Cordoba, Argentina who fell to 1-6-1 (0 KO's).

On October 17, 2008 at Polideportivo Municipal in Malargüe, Mendoza, Argentina, Yésica (119¾ lbs) won a four-round unanimous (40-36½,40-36½,39½-38½) decision over Natalia del Pilar Burga (118½ lbs) of San Luis, Argentina who fell to 4-2 (0 KO's).

On November 8, 2008 at Club Atletico San Martín in San Martin, Yésica (120¼ lbs) won a four-round unanimous decision (40-36½,40-36½,40-36) in a rematch with Sonia Edith Paladino (121 lbs) who fell to 1-7-1 (0 KO's).

On December 5, 2008 at Polideportivo Municipal in Rivadavia, Mendoza, Argentina, Yésica (120¾ lbs) won a four-round unanimous (40-36,40-37,40-36) decision over Maria del Carmen Montiel (124¼ lbs) of Buenos Aires, who fell to 2-15-1 (1 KO).

On December 19, 2008 at Polideportivo Municipal in Tunuyan, Mendoza, Argentina, Yésica (120¼ lbs) won a six-round unanimous (59½-57 x 3) decision over Maria del Carmen Potenza (118½ lbs) of Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina who fell to 4-9-1 (0 KO's).

On February 13, 2009 at Polideportivo San Pedro in San Martin, Yésica (118½ lbs) won an eight-round unanimous (79-74,79½-76½,79½-76½) decision over Natalia del Pilar Burga (119¼ lbs) who fell to 4-4 (0 KO's).

On March 14, 2009 at Club Atletico San Martin in San Martin, Yésica (120¼ lbs) won the vacant South American Junior Featherweight title when Adriana "La Joyita" Herrera (120 lbs) of Paysandu, Uruguay retired at the start of the ninth round of the scheduled ten-rounder.  Herrera, who had been knocked down in the eighth round, fell to 3-3-1 (1 KO).

On April 30, 2009 at Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina, Yésica (120½ lbs) TKO'd Maria del Carmen Potenza (120¼ lbs) at 1:22  in the third round of a scheduled six-rounder.  Potenza, who had received a standing eight count in the second round, fell to 5-10-1 (0 KO's).

On July 17, 2009 at Polideportivo San Pedro in San Martin, Yésica (119¾ lbs) knocked out Sonia Edith Paladino (119½ lbs) at 0:42 in the seventh round of a scheduled eight-rounder, dropping Paladino's record to 3-9-1 (0 KO's).  Paladino was in trouble from the second round onwards and ended the fight with one eye completely closed.

On August 20, 2009 at Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina, Yésica (119¼ lbs) was held to a six-round split (60-58½,58-58,57½-58) draw by Ivonne Anahi Cordoba (119 lbs)  of Buenos Aires. Marcos was consistently the aggressor and the straighter and more accurate puncher, but Cordoba's unorthodox bobbing and weaving style occasionally gave Marcos problems. Particularly in the fifth round, Marcos was caught by looping punches that Cordoba threw from unusual angles. Cordoba looked much happier with the scoring than Marcos as she moved her record to 4-0-2 (0 KO's). [Video

On September 12, 2009 at Casino de Mendoza in Mendoza, Argentina, Yésica (standing in photo) knocked out previously undefeated Antonina Avala Vazquez at 0:42 in the second round of s scheduled eight-rounder. Vazquez fell to 7-1-1 (2 KO's) with this loss.

On October 2, 2009 at Club Atletico San Martín in San Martin, Yésica won a ten-round unanimous (99½-90½,99½-91½,98-91½) decision over Marisa Johanna Portillo of Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina for the vacant Argentinian Junior Featherweight title.  Portillo, who had been deducted points in the eighth and ninth rounds, fell to 8-4-1 ( 2 KO's).

On November 28, 2009 at Casino de Mendoza in San Martin, Yésica won a ten-round unanimous (97-94½,98-93½,98-91½) decision over Cristina Pacheco who fell to 4-4-2.  Pacheco was knocked down in the eighth but Marcos received a standing eight count in the tenth.

On December 18, 2009 at Polideportivo La Colonia in Junin, Mendoza, Argentina, Yésica (122¼ lbs, at right in photo) won a close and exceptionally hard-fought nine-round unanimous (86-85,88-84,86½-85) decision over Betina Garino (122 lbs) of Villa Canas, Santa Fe, Argentina for the vacant WBA Fedalatin Junior Featherweight title. The fight often saw ferocious action at close quarters as the aggressive Garino was often able to back Marcos up and force her to defend with her back against the ropes. Garino landed several hard rights to the head that shook Marcos but Marcos kept her cool and used her boxing skills to weather these barrages. Marcos finished the fight a little stronger than one of her most difficult opponents to date. Both looked exhausted as the decision was announced and neither reacted strongly to the closeness of the scoring. Garino fell to 12-7-1 (2 KO's).  [Video

On April 9, 2010 at Anfiteatro Municipal in San Martin, Yésica won the interim WBA Junior Featherweight title with a ten-round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Simone Da Silva Duarte of Sao Paolo, Brazil who fell to 8-1 (2 KO's) with the loss. The taller Duarte was unable to match Marcos's busy work rate and boxing skills and Marcos was able to wear her down with body punching in the later rounds.  [Video

On November 19, 2010 at Teatro Griego Juan Pablo Segundo in San Martin, Yésica (120½ lbs) retired Yolis Marrugo Franco (5'3", 121 lbs) of Cartagena, Colombia at 0:10 in the eighth round of a ten-rounder for the interim WBA Junior Featherweight title. Marrugo Franco, who had been worn down by Marcos's speed and body shots, did not start the eighth round and fell to 12-7-3 (5 KO's) with the loss. [Video]

On March 18, 2011 at Anfiteatro Municipal in San Martin, Yésica (120¼ lbs) won a ten-round unanimous (98-92,98-92,100-90) decision over Maria Andrea Miranda (121¾ lbs) of Monitos, Colombia defending the interim WBA Junior Featherweight title.  Marcos used the first two rounds to study her opponent then began working her left hooks to the body. In the fourth and fifth rounds, the Colombian began to be weakened by Marcos's increasingly aggressive body attack.  Spurred on by 30,000 fans attending the event, Marcos appeared to be going for the knockout in the second half of the fight but she was visibly hampered in the final rounds by an injury to her right shoulder. Miranda held up for the full ten rounds but fell to 13-6 (8 KO's) with the loss.   Marcos required surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in her  shoulder, an injury that was expected to keep her out of the ring for about six months.

On March 16, 2012 at Teatro Griego Juan Pablo Segundo in San Martin, Mendoza, Argentina, Yesica Marcos (120¾ lbs) won a ten-round unanimous (98-91,96-92,97-92) decision over Ana Julaton (122  lbs) of Daly City, California for the WBO Junior Featherweight title. Both went to the canvas briefly in the first two rounds but neither was hurt and Marcos quickly settled into landing the heavier punches behind a hard-hitting double jab through most of the fight.  Julaton's jab was unable to move Marcos out of her preferred punching range and Julaton was frequently warned for punching low when she tried to go to the body. As the fight progressed Julaton could not solve the multiple problems of Marcos' body shots, quick combinations and opportunistic uppercuts as she fell to 10-3-1 (1 KO) while Marcos improved to 19-0-1 (6 KO's).
