Cindy "Checkmate" Serrano,  boxes out of Brooklyn, New York. She is a new boxer on the scene, when she made her pro debut on September 12, 2003, and won her first pro fight against Kathy Rodriguez in a four-rounder.  Serrano fights at 130 lbs, and at this time plans to fight as a super-featherweight.  Prior be boxing professionally, Serrano trained for one year and had some amateur experience that included winning the 2003 Empire State Game's Tournament. 

Some highlights of her career:

On July 26, 2006, at the Hammerstein Ballroom, New York, , New York, on ESPN2 “Wednesday Night at the fights” Serrano, 130,  won a six-round unanimous decision over Tawnyah Freeman, 135.  Final judges scores were 59-55, 59-55, and 60-54.

On December 10, 2005, at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, in Verona, New York Serrano, 125¼, of Brooklyn, New York, had a 10-round draw against Rhonda Luna, 125¾,  of California. The two were fighting for the vacant Featherweight WIBA world title.  Final judges scores were 94-96, 95-95, and 98-92.  Both boxers came into the fight undefeated and both walked away with a “draw” on their record, and no title.  Ryan Wissow, of the WIBA,  told WBAN that the title will remain vacant.  Full Fight report by Rick McLean  Fight Photo gallery #313  

On October 15, 2005 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic,  Serrano won by TKO1 over Luisa Maria Romero.

On May 7, 2005 at the Crown Plaza, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Serrano, 127,  won by TKO2 over Chloritha Magee, 131.5.

On April 8, 2005, at the Hanover Marriott, in Whippany, New Jersey,  Serrano, now 8-0-0, of Queens, New York won a six unanimous decision over Sharon Gaines, of Kansas City, Missouri..

On July 11, 2004, Cedar Beach, Allentown, PA, Serrano, 7-0-0 (5KO), Queens, New York, KO'd Susan Nance, 1-6-1, in Gore, Oklahoma, 1:05 in the first round. Nance came to win, but was outboxed, and was caught with a barrage of combinations that ended the fight.

On July 7, 2004 in Chester, West Virginia, Serrano (6-0-0 (4KO) won by 1:35 TKO1 over  Philadelphia's Wanda Satterthwaite now (0-5).

On June 12, 2004, at the Athletic Association Grounds, Hamilton, Bremuda, Star Promotion, Serrano, 129, now 5-0-0, of Queens, New York, won by a four-round split decision over Shakurah Witherspoon, 128 1/2.  Judge Frank Lombardi 39-38 Witherspoon; Judge Vic Richmond 39-38 Serrano; Judge Clevelyn Crichlow 40-37 Serrano. 

On January 2, 2004, Big Kahuna Club, Wilmington, Delaware -Telefutura Card (untelevised), Serrano, 130, of Queens, NY, stopped Helen Penson, 135, of Spartansburg, South Carolina 29 seconds of the first round.  The fight was scheduled for four rounds in the lightweight division.

On December 4, 2003, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Serrano, now 3-0-0 (2KO), stopped Shannon Birmingham, now 2-3 (1KO), 59 seconds in the first round.  It was reported that Serrano's skills were far too superior in comparison to Birmingham.

On November 13, 2003, in Glen Burnie, Maryland, Super-featherweight  Serrano, now 2-0-0, stopped her opponent, Kathy Rodriguez, now 0-2-0, in the second round with a technical knockout (TKO).

On September 12, 2003 -Rollins Center at Dover Downs Slots, Delaware, Pro debuters Serrano,130. New York, won a four-round unanimous decision over Kathy Rodriguez, also of New York. Final scoring by judges were 40-36.
