Ela "Bam Bam" Nuñez, originally from Puerto Rico, who
fights anywhere from Junior featherweight to featherweight, won her
first world title, when she defeated Dominga Olivo, in a 10-round
bout at the Frontier Field, in Rochester, New York on July 31, 2008.
30-year old Nunez had fought Olivo on
two different occasions, losing those two bouts by close
decisions--but after making adjustments to her training and moving
to Rochester to train, she was able to win in her third try by a
unanimous decision, winning the IWBF Jr. Featherweight World title.
Nunez told The Demoncrat and Chronicle, "I did my dream. Since
I was 10 years old, a little girl, this was my dream and I'm going
to work hard to be a champion not just once but a couple of times."
