On August 31, 2006 at Harvey's Lake Tahoe, Stateline, Nevada, Elena Reid (111½ lbs) f Las Vegas won the WIBA Flyweight title with a ten-round unanimous (98-92, 98-92, 97-93) decision over Mary Elizabeth (112 lbs). As reported by Lee Bates of Inside Women's Boxing, "From the opening round, Reid flashed her superior hand speed by boxing beautifully from her southpaw stance, and countering the on-rushing Ortega with head-snapping combinations. This trend continued on until the middle of the fight, when Ortega's consistent pressure finally paid off and she was able to back Reid into the ropes where she landed head shots of her own, winning a few rounds in the process.  Having been on the bad end of decisions in her two previous attempts at a world title, Reid was not going to leave any doubt to the judges. She began to use Ortega's pressure against her in the home stretch of the fight, beating her to the punch and fighting of the ropes. The two fighters had the entire crowd on their feet as they slugged it out toe-to-toe in the final 30 seconds of the fight."   Elena improved her record to 18-3-5 (5 KO's) with the win while Ortega fell to 30-3-1 (7 KOs).

On August 3, 2007 at the Ameristar Casino in St. Charles, Missouri, Hollie Dunaway (111 lbs) of St. Louis won an eight round unanimous (80-72,79-73,78-74) decision over Mary Elizabeth (110 lbs) in what was reported to WBAN as a very entertaining bout. (For photos of this fight by Jim Compton, see Photo Gallery #436 on the WBAN Records Member Site). Dunaway, who was the WBAN #2 ranked flyweight, improved to 20-5-0 (10 KOs).

On December 1, 2007 at the Beaumont Club in Kansas City, Missouri,  35-year-old Jessica Mohs (123 lbs) of Phoenix, Arizona and Mary Elizabeth Ortega fought in a four-rounder that ended in a majority draw with scores of 38-38, 38-38, and 37-38.  Mohs was now 7-16-2 (2 KOs) and Ortega 30-4-2 (7 KOs).

On April 5, 2008 at Burg-Waechter Castello in Dusseldorf, Germany, Mary Elizabeth Ortega KO’d Elena Miftode of Bucharest, Romania at 1:21 in the first round of a scheduled eight round bout. Miftode fell to 6-10-0, (3 KO's).

On May 10, 2008 at the Brandberge Arena in Halle an der Saale, Germany, Armenian-born Susianna Kentikian (112 lbs) of Hamburg, Germany won a stunning TKO at 1:53 of the first round over Mary Elizabeth (110¼ lbs) defending the WBA / WIBF world Flyweight titles. As reported by WBAN correspondent Torben Lodberg, "Kentikian caught Ortega with a left-right combination that sent Ortega to the floor 50 seconds into the round. 20 seconds later Kentikian hit the target with another hard right hand, that made Ortega's legs buckle, but she managed to stay on her feet, much to the surprise for Kentikian who was already heading for the neutral corner. The relentless attack from Kentikian continued, and  Ortega had to take another 8 count after being knocked down about 90 seconds into the round. She was visibly shaken when she got off the floor the second time, but the referee let the fight go on, keeping a close eye on Ortega.  However, he decided to stop the fight 10 seconds before the end of the round, after Ortega was backed up against the rope, unable to block much of the incoming fire. The United States boxer immediately protested against the stoppage---although her corner did not seem to join in the protests. Most boxing folks had expected a long and hard fought fight that could go either way. That includes the former WIBF world champion Regina Halmich who co-hosted the event, who predicted very hard work for Kentikian. The world champion stated in the post fight interview, that she had anticipated the fight to go the distance, but she was obviously pleased with the way it turned out."   Video--You Tube  Fight Report with photos  Kentikian improved to 21-0-0 (16 KO's) while dropping Ortega to 30-5-2 (8 KO's).

On September 10, 2010 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City. KS, Mary Elizabeth Ortega won a six-round unanimous decision over Kerri Hill from Little Rock, Arkansas, who fell to 2-17-0 (1 KO) with the loss. (Note this is not a cut-and-paste error, Ortega did fight Hill twice in five weeks).

On December 10, 2010 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, KS
Ada Velez (117
¼  lbs) from Hollywood, Florida won a six-round unanimous decision over Mary Elizabeth Ortega (116¾ lbs). Ortega fell to 31-6-2 (8 KO's) while Velez improved to 18-3-3 (6 KO's).
