Amateur boxer Suzanne Hemsley,  5' 8", born on June 24, 1982, fights anywhere from 60-66 kg.  Following a successful basketball career playing internationally and receiving 17 international caps, Hemsley decided to take a break from the sport.

After graduating from Loughborough University with a 1st class honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science in 2003, Hemsley landed a job as a Sports Science lecturer at Derby College.

Still maintaining training to keep fitness up and out of habit of many years of intense training programmes for basketball she started to look for new avenues to participate in, which also included playing netball and competing in cross-training (fitness) competitions.

Eventually Hemsley started doing a boxercise class, which was instructed by amateur boxing legend Kirk Gibbons. After a couple of months he suggested that if she wanted to do a little more boxing to go down to One Nation boxing gym, owned by one of his close friends, and also British heavy weight contender, Mr. Clifton Mitchell.

Slowly Hemsley began to shift more and more of her training towards boxing as she loved the discipline and hard work atmosphere of the gym. Also Hemsley met an inspirational friend Sara ‘The law’ Davis whom is at the moment pursuing a successful pro boxing career of 2 wins no losses. After a few of months amateur coach Alex Neave sat Hemsley down and asked her what she thought about having a bout to which she responded with, "I'll give it a go, why not”.

Hemsley's first bout took place in February of 2007, which she won by a unanimous decision, and moved her into the quarter final, then the semi final and eventually winning the Novice ABA title at 66kg by stoppage in the second round in June 2007.

Hemsley told WBAN, "This season I have won two regular bouts and lost one bout by split decision in the Maj Box Cup against a more experienced and open class girl Inka Mella from Finland. Most recently (June 15th 2008) I won the class B light welterweight ABA National title by second round stoppage. "

Titles: Class B 63kg ABA champion 2008, Novice ABA champion 66kg 2007
Other sporting Honours: 17 international caps for England basketball, 2nd place National cross-training championship 2006 (UKXTA), 3rd place national indoor Ironman/woman cross-training competition 2006, midlands representative for netball, 100m hurdles high jump and relay.
