Caroline Barry,
132 lbs. amateur boxer, began her boxing career in December of 2001 at
the Irish Hills Boxing Club. Just ten days later, Barry fought her first
amateur bout, on January 10, 2002, and lost her first match to Canadian
amateur boxer of the Border City Boxing Club Allison Hunter who had a
reported amateur record of 16 plus fights. Since that time, Barry has
fought many of the top amateurs and continues to grow in the sport. Her
latest win took place March 22, 2003, against another rising star in
women’s boxing Naquana Smalls, who is #1 with the USA Boxing.
Barry’s
athletic background included softball, volleyball, and basketball in high
school; softball from 1998-2000, at the Wayne State University; and she is
presently playing Rugby, at the University of Michigan Club. Barry is
currently attending Eastern Michigan University, and graduated in December
of 2003, with a BS in Athletic training. Some of Barry’s highlights
receiving Boxing Thomas "Sarge" Johnson Scholarship & Voted Athlete Rep
for Michigan LBC.
Barry told WBAN, “I would like to say how grateful and
fortunate I am to be surrounded by the people in my life who have been the
keystones to my success. My entire life….I've had amazing coaching and
teachers. My lectures and peers at EMU are incredible and I'll miss them
greatly. Lastly thanks to Kirk Culik, Bob Kerr and, all my sparring
brothers who have given me incredible work in the gym.”
