Csabi Wins In Hungary

(SEPT 26) Last night at the Sporthall of Nagykálló Hungary, Dr. Bettina Csabi fought local hero Viktoria Milo for vacant WIBF-GBU super flyweight title. The bout was qualitative and balanced as well. Bettina's jabs were dominating the match.

Champ; Janaya Davis defeats Elizabeth Kerin, 168; and Trish Hill, 130, decision win over Lisa Pedersen, 130.

Jeffries Wins IBA title!
September 24, 2004

 (SEPT 24) Last night at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, Kelsey Jeffries, 121 1/2,  of Gilroy, California won by a 10-round majority decision over Jerri Sitzes, 122,  in a 10-round super-bantamweight IBA title bout. Final judges scores were 96-94, 97-93 for Jeffries, and 95-95 even.

Condolences to the Toughill Family..

(SEPT 24) Erin Toughill's baby sister, Megan Toughill, was killed in a car wreck on Sunday, September 19, 2004 at  2:30 AM while driving on the freeway in Orange County, California.  Prayers go out to the Toughill family. Erin told WBAN, "She was a beautiful soul and will now enter heaven as an angel which will watch over us all!" (photo on left)

(SEPT 23) WBAN contacted Chris White of Absoloot Boxing, and got the following rundown on the women's matches of an eight-bout card!  The main event will be Laila Ali vs. Gwendolyn O'Neil, 10 round IWBA light-heavyweight world title fight; Valerie Mahfood vs. Laeticia Robinson; Janaya Davis vs. Elizabeth Kerin; and Trish Hill vs. Lisa Pedersen.  Weigh-in to be held at 4:00pm.

(SEPT 20) Just when WBAN thinks they have heard it ALL,  another Wing-Dinger flies out from left field!  On September 18th, United States boxers, Yvonne Caples and Missy Fiorentino went to Japan to fight on a card, and both were fighting for a  WIBA world title belt against Japan's female boxers.  Caples reported to WBAN that after having a "majority draw" against Japan's Yuko Sodoka that Sodoka was awarded with the WIBA World title belt! 

Schouten to fight Ivanova

(SEPT 17) On November 6, 2004, promoted by Top Sports Group, at the Velodrome (cycling stadium, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Esther Schouten, 15-1-0 (6KO), of the Netherlands,  will be defending her WIBF Super Bantamweight title against Galina  Ivanova, 5-4-1 (0KO), of Bulgaria,  in a 10-round WIBF Super Bantamweight title bout. 

Reis to fight Toughill
September 17, 2004

(SEPT 17) WBAN has been notified today that contracts have been signed for Yvonne Reis, 3-4-1 (0KO), of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to fight. Erin Toughill, 5-1-1 (0KO), of California, for the GBU Intercontinental title, in a ten round bout. The fight will take place on October 22, 2004, in Sarasota, Florida.

(SEPT 16) There is a new up-and-coming boxer on the scene, and she is related to retired pro boxer Kelly Whaley!  Whaley's daughter, Katie Whaley made her amateur debut September 13th,  at the Washington County Fair here in Southern Utah. Katie, a southpaw at 105 pounds and 15 years old, fought Adie Torres, 18, to a draw.

(SEPT 15)  WBAN received an open letter from Regina Halmich in regards to her latest fight with Elena Reid. Halmich said the following:  "Dear Sue Fox, my English is not so good, but I think it´s important that I write you a letter. First,  I would like to say, that I think the fight between me and Elena Reid was a big fight with a lot of action. I would like to say thanks to Elena Reid for this fight. The decision was very close, I know that. And I´m not very happy about that and I really do not feel like a winner. The results show, that this fight must come again!

(SEPT 14)  On September 21, 2004 in Hamburg, Germany, there will be two women's matches on the card.  First  Ina Menzer, 3-0-0, of Aachen, Germany, will be taking on  Viktoria Oleynik. AND in a second fight, Alesia Graf, 5-0-0, (1KO), of Stuttgart, Germany will be fighting Ekaterina Tsepeleva, 1-1-0, of Russia.

(SEPT 13) WBAN has received an open letter from Sumya Anani to Mary Jo Sanders, who is set to fight on September 16th, and does not have an opponent. Anani wrote, "Mary Jo, you have an upcoming fight that is posted on WBAN for September 16 (3 days away) still listed as a "TBA"....I'm offering one of my belts...It's your hometown, your crowd, probably your promoter too. You've known for quite awhile that you were going to fight on the 16th. What's up with the fights lately that list TBA's days before the fight? Does TBA mean "To Best Avoid letting an opponent properly prepare for a fight?" Sumya 'Island Girl' Anani"

McConnell Takes Tough opponent in
second pro bout!

(SEPT 13) On Saturday, September 11, at the Silver Reef Casino, Ferndale, Washington, Molly McConnell won a unanimous decision over Claudia Valenciana, now 7-2-0 (4KO), and #1 ranked Light middleweight in the United States. After the first round of getting used to Valenciana's mauling approach to boxing. Molly went on to win the last three rounds handedly with scores of 39-37 on all three judges cards. Valenciana weighed in two pounds over her contract weight of 147 and according to Bill Mertzl, refused to lose the two pounds saying; "we'll just go home". Molly accepted the bout and at fight time Valenciana weighed 158. This was a BIG order for McConnell who boxes as a Light Welterweight, however the BIG order was handled with ease. (SEPT 13) On Saturday, September 11, at the Cabbagetown Gym, in Toronto, Canada, Amateur boxer Jenn Ogg, and reigning women’s world lightweight boxing champion, knocked out Wendy Lee in just 12 quick seconds! Durell Wambolt caught the action and told WBAN, “It was an awesome display of power! Ogg has 67amateur bouts 60-7, and is a London police officer. She just recently announced her upcoming retirement from boxing, and plans to make her last appearance on October 15th, as the headliner of the second Banger in the Hangar dinner-boxing card at the London Convention Centre.

(SEPT 12) Last night in Karlsruhe, Germany Regina Halmich and Elena "Baby Doll" Reid fought to a controversial draw. WBAN has already received many emails from fans in Germany stating that Reid was "Ripped off". Judges scoring: Roger Tillemann (Belgian) 93-97 for Reid; Leslek Jankowiak (Polish) 97-97; Oliver Evers (German) 98-/94 for Halmich. (SEPT 10) Tonight, Felix Promotion in cooperated with Fair-Play promotion presented a professional boxing gala in the City Sport Hall, Tököl, Hungary, which featured three women's bout. After the long inactivity period Piroska Beki (6-2-0; 2KO's) winning by scheduled four round split decision over Agnes Varga (0-2-0) in a featherweight division. Beki dominated her opponent every rounds, but knocked down in the 2nd round with a lucky-punch.

(SEPT 10) On September 17, 2004, at the Orleans Hotel, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Melinda Cooper will be fighting a six-rounder on the undercard. Guilty Boxing would like to set up a title fight for Cooper in her next bout. No opponent has been named.

(SEPT 7) The 2nd International German Women’s Amateur Boxing Championships were held at the Bavarian town of Maisach last weekend, in the categories women (born 1985 or earlier) and Juniors (born 1986 and 1987). The championships took place in a three day period, beginning on Friday, September 3. The preliminary bouts were held in August bouts. The Prelims were held at the gymnasium of one of the local schools, while the venue for Saturday’s semi finals and Sunday’s finals....

(SEPT 6) In Riccione, from October 3-10, 2004, there will be an Amateur European Championship. Riccione is a beautiful city, on the Adriatic Sea. Also, from September 7-12, many Amateur boxing teams will be busy at the International tournaments in Debracem, Hungary, which included the Italian amateur team. Then the Italian team will leave for Poland to compete dual matches in preparation of the European Championship. Lastly on October 15, in Lastra di Signa, Italy, Sonia De Biase will fight a six rounds. No opponent has been named yet.
