Open Letter: The Truth About Angelo Dundee’s 5th Street Gym
by Matt Baiamonte
April 15, 2026

(APR 15) The 5th Street Gym was a Mecca of boxing built by legendary Brothers Chris and Angelo Dundee. Made world famous for being the training center for Muhammad Ali and hub for all the biggest celebrities of the time. Angelo’s son Jimmy and successor Matt Baiamonte sit down and they allege deception and lies that led to Angelo Dundee’s greatest legacy being misused by bad faith actors. [See Video]

Matt Baiamonte said, "The gym called 'World’s Famous 5th Street Gym' located at 615 5th street in Miami Beach is "NOT" affiliated with the “ORIGINAL 5th STREET GYM” founded by Chris Dundee and Angelo Dundee any of its original fighters as they claim PERIOD. FAKE NEWS!"

Please watch the clip included with this post.

Matt Baiamonte, went on to say the following:

Claims made by Tom Tsatas & Dino Spencer regarding their relationship with Angelo Dundee are inaccurate, misleading and are lies. They DID NOT train under, work with, or have any legitimate professional affiliation with Angelo Dundee, despite what has been stated publicly, in interviews, and on their website.

There was a business agreement in place involving Angelo Dundee, his son Jimmy Dundee, & myself. That agreement was not honored, including a failure to meet agreed financial obligations. They never paid a dime! As a result, they were formally instructed by Jimmy Dundee that they could no longer use the 5th Street Gym name or represent any connection to its legacy and to the Dundee's.

To publicly clarify these matters, Jimmy Dundee and I recently spoke with Jesse Wright on the "Teachers of Boxing podcast", where we addressed the full situation in detail. The complete interview is available via the link in comments.

In addition, boxing certifications are currently being sold based on claims of training under Angelo Dundee. These representations are misleading. Anyone who has purchased these certifications should consider seeking further clarification regarding their legitimacy & value.

There are also claims of professional experience, including alleged work by Tom Tsatas with Muhammad Ali as seen in Tom's trainer bio. Dino also claims to be a protege of Angelo which is another lie.

This statement is intended to provide clarity, correct misinformation, & ensure that the history and legacy of the original 5th Street Gym are represented accurately and honestly.
