Alaniz Returns to Winning Ways with DQ Victory Over Flores
by Sue TL Fox
March 11, 2026

(MAR 11) On Saturday night, at the Estadio F.a.B., in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Gabriela Celeste Alaniz, 112, won by a third round DQ over Leiryn Flores, 112. Flores threw an illegal headbutt causing a deep cut on Alaniz eyebrow and was disqualified.

Alaniz (19-2, 7 KOs) secured a victory on  though not in the manner she likely intended. Alaniz defeated Venezuelan veteran Leiryn "La China" Flores (25-8-1, 20 KOs) by disqualification in the third round of their scheduled 10-round contest for the vacant WBO Latino Flyweight Title.

The clash of heads caused a severe, deep laceration on Alaniz's right eyebrow, resulting in significant hemorrhaging. Referee Gustavo Tomás immediately assessed the situation and, deeming the foul intentional and the injury too severe to continue, disqualified Flores.

The bout was the featured main event for "La Leyenda Continua" (The Legend Continues), a special all-female card organized by OR Promotions to commemorate International Women's Day.

In the early rounds of the Alaniz bout, started the fight with her trademark aggression and volume. She controlled the early action with a sharp, deep right hand that frequently found its mark through Flores' permeable guard.  Unfortunately during the third round, the fight was stopped abruptly when Flores connected an intentional lead butt.

With this win, Alaniz claimed the vacant WBO Latino Flyweight Title, marking her sixth professional championship.
