(FEB 22) Last night at the Palenque Expo Gan
in her hometown of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, Camila "La Magnífica" Zamorano,
18 years old, weighed in at 102.7,
successfully defended her WBC World Atomweight Championship for the second time.
She was facing Argentina's Claudia "C Cuatra" Ruiz,
101.8.in a ten-round bout. Zamorano is now 14-0-0 (1KO).
According to news reports, from the opening bell, Zamorano utilized her superior
speed and technical footwork to neutralize Ruiz's forward-pressing style.
Ruiz (7-3-1), an experienced challenger who had previously won several titles in
Argentina, struggled to find her range against the champion's sharp
counter-punching. While Ruiz displayed a great heart in the ring and willing to
exchanges blows, Zamorano’s won by a 10-round unanimous decision.
Zamorano's victory further establishes her as a cornerstone of the next
generation of Mexican women's boxing. Her journey to the top has been historic:
Historic Debut: Turned professional in 2023 at age 15 after an amateur career of
over 55 fights.
Youngest Champion: Captured the WBC Interim Atomweight title in June 2025 at
just 17 years old.
Elevation to Full Champion: Promoted to absolute champion in October 2025
following the retirement of Tina Rupprecht.
Successful Defenses: Previously defended her title against veteran Sana Hazuki
with a 100-90 shutout before this latest victory over Ruiz.
Zamorano has cleared another major hurdle in the atomweight
division. As she continues to develop her power to match her technical prowess,
boxing fans are eager to see if "La Magnífica" will seek a unification bout or
continue her dominant run against the division's established veterans.
