KOLDING, Denmark – January 27, 2026 – This coming Saturday, January 31, there
will be an interesting matchup in women’s boxing at the Sydbank Arean in Kolding,
Denmark.
Undefeated boxer Dina Thorslund, makes her highly anticipated and deeply
personal return to the ring. After more than a year away and a period of immense
personal hardship, the former undisputed bantamweight is back, moving up a
division with one goal: to conquer a third world title and honor her journey.
Thorslund (23-0, 9 KOs) will square off against Spain's determined Almudena
Álvarez (7-3, 2 KOs) for the vacant WBC Interim World Featherweight title. The
bout serves as the co-main event to the clash between Jacob Bank and William
Scull and will be broadcast live on DAZN, with coverage starting at 2:00 p.m. ET
(Central European Time).
Thorslund, a top pound-for-pound talent, voluntarily relinquished her
bantamweight world titles last year due to pregnancy, only to face the
heartbreaking loss of her baby. Now, channeling her strength and resilience, she
embarks on a new chapter at 126 pounds.
For Álvarez, this bout is the "golden ticket" she's been waiting for. Stepping
in as a replacement for the originally scheduled opponent. Álvarez, 43, is a
seasoned European competitor with nothing to lose and everything to gain,
seeking to deliver one of the biggest upsets in the sport's recent history.
"This fight is more than just a title shot; it's about inner strength and making
a statement," said a representative for Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), which
promotes Thorslund. "Dina is a champion inside and outside the ring, and we
fully support her as she chases history in a new weight class".
The winner of Saturday's European clash will secure the mandatory challenger
position for the reigning WBC featherweight world champion, Tiara Brown, setting
the stage for a potential unification bout later in 2026.
Fans can expect an emotionally charged and high-stakes battle as Thorslund looks
to continue her undefeated run and Álvarez aims to seize her moment on the
global stage.
