Women's Equality Day 2025: Are we truly equal in Women's Boxing?
by Sue TL Fox
August 31, 2025

(AUG 31) Women's Equality Day 2025 is celebrated on August 26, which this year in 2025 marked the 102nd anniversary of the 19th Amendment. It is a day that is hopefully observed to promote women to have fair opportunities, access and representation in every field.

WBAN's Question, is it TRULY equal in Women's Boxing?

The ironic part of Women's Equality Day is that it was posted mostly everywhere on the Internet coinciding with an article that I wrote earlier in the month titled, "Why are we Not seeing more Female Boxers being featured on Regular Boxing Cards?"

I literally gave countless examples of women boxers not particularly being featured on  "regular club-type boxing cards" where there were many fight cards absent of female boxers being represented on those cards, and the majority of male boxing bouts.

When I wrote that article, I did not give any thought at the time that it was written the same month as when we should all be celebrating "Women's Equality Day."

I went on to say in that article, "Women’s Boxing has definitely been on the rise, and that there is no mistake on saying that---but with that said, at the same time, let us not get blind sighted when there is a lack of support for female boxers in general to be featured on regular boxing cards."

I also wrote that many boxing cards that were taking place that weekend was totally dominated by male bouts and many had no female boxers featured on the cards that I sampled through that weekend.  Full article

So with this said, let's evaluate more on the topic of "Women's Equality Day".....This day is observed every year in the United States on August 26. It has been celebrated since 1971 to honor women’s progress toward equal rights with men. The day marks the passing of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which gave American women the right to vote. Different groups such as schools, workplaces, libraries and community organizations host events and programs on this day to recognize women’s achievements and to remind society of the need for equal rights in education, jobs and other sectors of life.

This positively sounds great on paper---let's hope that female boxers will be able to enjoy "Women's Equality Day" when promoters, and others involved in the sport remember this when they are thinking of the equality for female boxers in the sport.
