(OCT 17) LOS ANGELES, CA— Black Bear Pictures has announced that its highly anticipated
biographical film, Christy, will be released in the United States on November 7,
2025. Starring Sydney Sweeney, the 2025 American drama is based on the life of
legendary female boxer Christy Martin.
The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival
(TIFF) on September 5, 2025, where it was met with critical attention. The
narrative explores the extraordinary career of Martin, a pioneer in women's
boxing, while also delving into the personal struggles she faced outside the
ring.
Christy chronicles the boxer's rise to mainstream prominence in the 1990s,
including her historic signing with promoter Don King and her appearance on the
cover of Sports Illustrated, which significantly elevated the profile of women's
boxing.
The movie also examines the personal challenges Martin overcame, such as
navigating her sexuality and surviving a domestic violence attack.
Her lasting
legacy is also highlighted induction into the International Boxing
Hall of Fame.
