Team USA Concludes Day Six of 2025 World Boxing Championships

(SEPT 10) LIVERPOOL, England-- The United States concluded day six (September 9) of the 2025 World Boxing Championships after Jajaira Gonzalez (women’s 60 kilograms) and Robby Gonzales (men’s 80 kilograms) were defeated on Tuesday inside M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England. Team USA will look ahead to Wednesday’s slate, where three American athletes will compete in the quarterfinals and look to secure positions in the medal rounds.

Gonzalez squared off against Poland’s Agneta Rygielska in the fourth bout of Tuesday’s opening session. Gonzalez applied pressure to her Polish opponent from the opening bell and consistently kept her foe on her heels. Rygielska met the challenge and scored points, ultimately swaying the judges and earning the unanimous decision victory over Gonzalez.

Gonzales matched up with Croatia’s Gabrijel Veocic and pushed the bout to the brink but was dealt a 4-1 loss. The United States’ 80-kilogram contender showed promise in the opening portion of the bout with incredible aggression. Despite his pace, Gonzales fell behind 4-0 heading into the final round. He was able to bounce back and sway four judges in the third round, but the damage was done, and he was eliminated by the Croatian.

Heading into the quarterfinal rounds, the USA will have three athletes in contention on Wednesday, including Yoseline Perez (women’s 54 kilograms), Tokyo 2020 Olympian Naomi Graham (women’s 75 kilograms) and Malachi Georges (men’s 90 kilograms). All three American boxers are just one win away from qualifying for the medal rounds.

Perez will take on Uzbekistan’s Nigina Uktamova, a Paris 2024 Olympian. Uktamova enters the bout with two wins via unanimous decision in the opening rounds of the 2025 World Boxing Championships. The Uzbek contender defeated Kazakhstan in the opening round of the tournament and followed suit with a win over Hungary to qualify for the quarterfinals. The meeting will take place in Ring A, bout two, starting at approximately 7:15 a.m. ET.

Graham is scheduled to face Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree in Wednesday’s matchup. The meeting will be the second bout of the tournament for both Graham and Greentree. The Australian defeated Korea’s Suyeon Seong in her tournament debut via abandonment in the third round. The women’s 75-kilogram matchup is slated to begin at 8:15 a.m. ET, in Ring A, bout six.

Georges will square off against Brazil’s Isaias Filho, marking a huge matchup for the American heavyweight. Georges and Filho met twice in 2025, with Filho claiming victory in each bout. Georges looks to avenge those two meetings on Wednesday after scoring a unanimous decision in his World Boxing Championships opener and a second-round knockout in his second bout of the event. Filho enters Wednesday’s matchup after earning a bye in the opening round and a unanimous decision over France’s Soheb Bouafia in the second round. Georges and Filho will begin their match at 10:45 a.m. ET, in Ring A, bout 16.

Every day of the 2025 World Boxing Championships will be broadcast live and free on worldboxing.org.
